That was true in GLB1, but in 2 so far as I can tell player and ball positions on the field are literal data read outs so the ball did that in the sim - players regularly make plays on balls that far from their person, particularly DBs, just not regularly make the catch as a WR and the distance players wingspans represent is already gigantic since they are 12 feet tall stylistically. They regularly interact with a ball 3 yards from the center point of their person while on their feet, imagine just yoinking a ball out of the air 9 feet away from you.
The 'recreation' issue they have in 2 is representing height of crossbars and positions with the limitations of the 2d field render.
