For the WR that catches the ball, is it a "catch in stride" even though the throw causes the WR to come to a complete stop? With the game setting the WR's speed to a certain value once catch is made?
The WR (level 52 in the replay) that catches the ball has like 145 speed and only 75 agility. Not particularly great catching/vision/anything else (first cap catching and vision, very low stamina/confidence). +1 speedster tree, 1 pt in Catch in Stride 1 pt, no other SAs. I guess it could be First Step but it's just whacky how he takes off when the build doesn't seem capable of that.
Anyone more experienced with the passing game, have you seen attribute-defying replays like this before?Going back to the OP, I'm pretty confident in the below...
1. When dot catches the ball (from a complete stop),
First Step fired successfully giving him nice acceleration.
2. Upon catching the ball,
the outside CB Cameron Peachy was "faked", i.e. he lost a fake vs anti-fake battle roll. It's important to realize that "fakes" exist in the sim without the SA. Rather Juke/Headfake to "fakes" are the same as Power Thru/Lower Shoulder are to "break tackles". When the SA fires, it gives a big bonus to your side of the battle roll, to the point where in high leagues you mostly only see fakes during jukes and broken tackles during SA firing boosts. However in lower leagues where defenders might have less vision, you are more likely to see successful SA-less fakes since defenders tend to have less vision/super vision/SA's on their side of the roll.
It's a telltale sign of a fake when a defender continues oddly in the wrong direction, since when you lose the battle roll (fake vs anti-fake), you continue in the direction you were previously traveling. Hence why he starts moving towards the WR, loses the shit out of the battle roll, and runs towards the WR's previous standing location.
3. Inside CB 'Shut You Down' starts behind the WR compared to the sideline, then bumps into the outside CB while chasing.
Conclusion: The three of these combined make the WR look like he's the flash, but he isn't actually running that fast. Just accelerated fast while defenders did funny stuff in the wrong directions.
Bonus: This has nothing to do with catch in stride. All catch in stride does is gives a bonus to your roll to see if you need to stop or slow down during the pass. It doesn't fire, it's always a part of that roll. Certainly doesn't make you faster.
Bonus Replay: Example of a won fake vs anti-fake battle roll, without Juke/Headfake present.
O dot has a good bit of open field fake, helping that fake roll.
