thinking of building one, what archetype did you use. How effective are they and what attributes are the key?

Could be Blitz archetype... maybe Combo.. but the best answer I can give is this; Pick the archetype whose primary (main) skills match up with what you need to make a great blitzer.

#1 Speed.
#2 Speed.
#3 more speed.
#4, Agility.
Maybe some tackling... maybe.
Vision (at least 50?) to find ways around people.
Maybe some strength? (1st cap?)
Oh... and in case I forgot to mention it... more speed.
1st step.
Nasty QB damaging VA's and SA's.

Specialty dots like Blitzers need a great O/D C to make them worth a crap and are generally useless on Casual teams because the AI's are run by GLB's brains... not human ones. Specialty dots are singular purpose dots when built best. A Blitz LB in pass or run coverage should be crap (as opposed to other LB's). So plan out your build then match up an archetype to the skill set. Whatever that is is the one you should use.

1) don't build a blitzing LB, build a CB instead

2) build a cover LB that can also blitz.

3) 160+ Speed, Disguise Blitz, 1st Step 20+% BB

Building a specific blitzer is a waste of a dot.

If you're the absolute best of the best you might get a sack every other game, and maybe a hurry or 2 a game.

Yea, I've seen how effective a blitzing CB can be, had one this past season with 48 hurries and 35 sacks. LBs did fair and I was wondering what difference a build for purpose blitzing LB could do.

Build would be identical. It's play calls, and the bonuses blockers get to spotting LBs vs CBs. LBs are just less effective all other things being equal.

I think you're spot on, TJ. I believe that's also because of how blocking is coded and (formation) movement is restricted more than anything. I mean you can only move a LB so far out to the side for a clean path around the TE or Tackle whereas a CB already starts with that path. Also, the way I suspect blocking to be coded, Tackles and TE's are supposed to LOOK for D-linemen and LB's on the blitz... and CB's generally get ignored (unless there's a BFB back there to catch them). When I watch replays that's what it looks like to me. Reactions (by Tackles and TE's) to blitzing LB's is always much faster than reactions to blitzing CB's.

Has anyone ever tried a 170+ Speed blitz LB with good SAs?

I would assume you run really fast into the OT and fall down as you would have to cut back on other things that would help in block avoidance. But no, I've never tried it.
