So first off, I have a question about WL builds, 2nd I am VERY AWARE that a 135 speed DB with 110 vision is not going to Revis island a any kind of WL WR lol… and I am very well aware of the difference between average pro level dots and wl dots I don’t plan on going against the grain there.

After basically living in the faq, rate my player and WLE help with this dot pages on the forum, and LITERALLY SCAVENGING through years and years of forum pages and open private forums that help with dot building over the past year… I have FINALLY personally figured out how to build solid dots wouldn’t call them WL caliber due to mistakes I made during the build process which was a major trial and error for me and I feel my next batch of dots will far exceed the ones I’ve made.

My question is when did everyone figure out what a WL dot should look like and where are the guides that everyone followed? Surely guys didn’t wake up one day and just figure out how to build plan a 160+ speed dot with 90 ago/catch and were super confident they could hit these numbers without error. (I can build a dot up to these numbers but I just wanna know other people thought process behind it). the build guide that A LOT of people who aren’t apart of that elite builder crowd still use is like 45+ seasons old which would be like what half a decade ago?

Now I’m gonna go ahead and answer my own question and say the reason their aren’t any guides is because of opposing coordinators figuring out how certain guys build and forming a scheme as that in WL most dots are built directly off of the DC’s scheme.
But maybe I’m wrong?

Ik this is long asf so.

TLDR: when did everyone figure out how to build elite caliber dots and what made people confident that you could hit these numbers, and why aren’t their any guides out there?

use the JDBolick guide and you will build WL quality dots

I am sure there are variations and other guides as well

and then use the VPB to build them to see how they turn out and tweak them as needed

Basic build plan for any .5 ALG dot
If going strength first then pick one pound below the maximum. If picking speed first then pick one pound above the minimum. Enhance the first attribute to 10%, train intense three times, enhance to 20%, then train intense until you have a nearly full bar at 32.9x without equipment on Day 48. Convert 15 bonus tokens to a skill point and cap to 48.9x. Then boost. Next season you'll enhance to 30% and normal train, then second cap, then continue normal training, then third cap. At that point you'll unlock and enhance your attributes for multi-training. Unlock the first, second, and third attributes you plan to cap and enhance all to 30% when possible. Use the free first slot to rotate any other attributes you plan to cap eventually, enhancing each to 10%. Continue multi-training until the first attribute reaches anywhere between 90 and 100 depending upon your build plan. Skill points should be spent in the first attribute until it reaches between 73 and 85 depending upon your build plan and how many attributes you eventually need to increase.

That's designed to get the first attribute up as quickly as possible to accumulate ALGs. You do the weight trick so that you're just under the .97 decimal for the third cap at level 7, otherwise you end up wasting two ALGs and there was no point in racing up that fast anyway. For 0.4 ALG dots I haven't figured out anything quite so simple, but in general you should probably pick max or min weight and then go to multi-training right after the second cap. 0.67 ALG dots don't need to worry about weight either and shouldn't unlock the first attribute but should push it really hard in the beginning.

I don't think there have been major changes to build guides for about 10 years now. At that time, there was a lot of work done on what builds worked best (speed tests and agility tests on players, looking at the impact of height and jumping in receivers and defensive backs and a lot of other work done to determine what the ultimate build should be). At the same time, math specialists were working on how to get the builds that were deemed to be most efficient. A lot of this was done inside networks and wasn't shared publicly.

If you are looking for detailed guides, Dave Mr Majors has a good write up on the building process and RayRay has good building plans for some positions (and some not so good ones for others).

That's what I use is jdbolicks guide but you also will need the vbp to watch as you build them as you go along. The other script you will need is alg's to 79 script so you can monitor how far to take each attr as you build them. If you don't have the alg's to 79 script here is a spread sheet showing them.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FLcZiZuk8WlBeiJmRIaf14yJ4n81EmYUcsfy6Mqy98c/edit#gid=0
EDIT: bookmark the google spreadsheet, it will come in handy when you use the vpb as it doesn't show alg's to 79 when you use the vpb)

When I start a dot I usually concentrate on the 3 or sometimes 4 major attr's that need to be maxed out and also I try to with those attr's
once they hit around 32 take them to 48 if your can, you get better training gains that way. (sometimes it isn't feasible to do that based on how your main attr's but use this as a rule of thumb.

See that’s where I made the error lol… scripts and vpb make written out guides simply not needed… I forgot about the effect they had on dot building lol, I could build quality dots and meet ideal numbers without it on each major attr… but I struggled rounding out the rest of the build. Now ik the tools needed. Thanks fellas.

Whether you use a guide or the VPB or your memory, the most important piece of information is the ability softcaps - https://web.archive.org/web/20191214130007/http://wiki.goallineblitz.com/index.php/Ability_Softcaps

Also, as Bluesman hinted at, you should have some idea when training becomes inefficient at the different levels.

I’m definitely gonna check out Dave mr majors, I might of already seen it but I’ll check again but…

Definitely I used RayRays builds but tweaked them in my own builds as I went… he’s the one I was referring to seeing his last posted guide was from 2015… so well over half a decade ago. Meanwhile his guides are helpful and practically life saving for me as I now understand the process on how on certain days you have to cap and etc… if you look at my builds from before when I first started playing I’d just randomly place things in diff attributes thinking I can make a demigod dot that’s good at everything like this is madden or 2k… (I was like 12 at the time I’m 23 now so don’t judge me to hard lol)

Final edit: I didn’t realize you had said “major changes” misread and though you left out the major part, I understand now my bad.
Final final edit 😂: Wow I completely just did not fully read anything you said and basically repeated a lot of things you already said lol… literally deleted a whole paragraph.

I remember some stupid stuff we used to do with builds early in GLB, like adding 1 point to stamina every level up.

To be a slightly bit opposite of these fellas, I build based off a slightly different process. JD's guide is, and always has been, for .5 ALG dots... even he says as much. And I follow it mostly, depending on what I'm building. It's a great 'starter' kit... but it doesn't fit every archetype and isn't dead spot on perfect for .4 and .67's and you DO need to have a real good idea of what you want the dot to END up being before you even start. There are numbers of 'guides' out there but I will tell you what I Do and if that's your gig, then rock it.

#1, gotta have the great (and right) start. To do that you gotta have...

#2, a great 'End Build Guide'. Whether you make it or use someone elses, you need it to be able to know HOW to get that great start. It's going to show/give you targets to reach and knowing targets tell you how to get from day -0- to day 280.

But if you blow the start, you've basically blown the build. I tend to set most of my target numbers down low and force myself to hit them. If I do that, the middle and late parts of the build flow pretty easy. Right around the time to switch over from Multi-training to Light training for BT's is when I know if I got it right... or got it wrong. I have several 'skill guides' I use to achieve certain end numbers in skills... then fit the skills to the type of dot I wanna build/end with... rather than build according to an archetype or position. So there's always different 'processes'... but the end results are the bread and butter.

I've never even seen jd's guide or a vdb, honest. I have referred to Majors throughout the years. I also peek at Maulers/Steve/Disa on occasion, World Alliance and one or two others. creeks end build info has been extremely helpful.

Remaining natural bump numbers have been priceless for me. I'm not sure what download it is, but there is one that shows how much a primary and secondary skill will gain through L79 as you are training. I've found that having end numbers showing on a players profile helps inme to know when to stop adding SP's. Another key is including VA bumps to determine % addition, dictate how many SP's I add. Knowing what SA's I might want at a given position, and to have in mind a training % that dictates when I stop training that atty are also factors. By the way, that % is not the same for all attys IMO

Leveling Up Schedule, Boosting Guide, Capping Plateaus, Manual ALG Chart are all useful tools. I keep my own Private Forum where I store threads, charts, references, etc from over a decade of accumulation to aid in the build and reference process.

As a side note: One thing I think has helped is there is a particular technique I've found that can potentially lead to an "X" factor dot. I have only found it on a couple positions in particular and it doesn't always work (wish I had that one figured out) but it does often enough that I am convinced it exists.

EDIT: I must say it is still a lot of fun for me, to experiment with a dot every couple seasons just to try some new ideas and almost without exception, I find something new (to me) that works well that I haven't seen posted or at least I'm not aware of...

my crazy homeless guy on the street take: the only major breakthroughs/discoveries have been in SAs and how high to take them, and there are still some not really widely known

if you've seen your dot with 1 point in fakes have them fire you know what I'm talking about, same for those who've had experience with the SAs related to forcing fumbles. the attribute math probably hasn't changed in 50 seasons or whenever the game's last actual update was

It also depends on if you're building for a system or building for WL free agency. Are you building for highest EL value or for a system or specific purpose. I always built my dots for a specific purpose and for my specific defense and offense and I did a pretty good job of losing important WL games while doing it.
