Could be like home runs are measured? I mean some of those moonshots slam into seats, walls, windows, scoreboards... but they still get a distance measured beyond where they actually stopped/landed. Maybe GLB decided to measure the 'distance' even though once the ball passes the back of the endzone, it's done.
