There were a lot of rumors that were started back in the beginning. Some still discussed today in the forums. Here's two I remember,

1. That a center at the long snapper position helps Field Goal %

2. That bort built his defensive linemen with blocking and that it somehow improved line play.

Any truth to either of these?

1. I have no idea
2. No. It's like that old alka seltzer commercial. "Try it, you'll like it...so I tried it... and it almost killed me."

I remember when the Blocking rumor started. It felt like bullshit to me from the first moment I read it.

I seem to recall Bort once stating, specifically, in response to that rumor, that no, adding Blocking to defensive linemen does not help them. Alas, I have no idea how to find that quote. But I pretty strongly remember reading it at some point.

No idea about the center at long snapper. But I always put a center at long snapper, just in case. I doubt it helps with the FG percentage, but I figure it's good to have an actual blocker there on FG attempts just to cut off the quickest, most direct route for a would-be FG blocker to get to the kicker.

Yeah, I remember reading it too or maybe hearing it on GLB radio. Do you remember any other rumors?

Ive heard the faster the player the harder the catch. Also the more dots in a certain area on a play, the less likely to make the catch.

With Novus on this. Tried non-center and honestly couldn't understand why my FG's weren't blocked as they just ran up the middle all the time. Switched to center and at least my FG line didn't look like Swiss Cheese.
Also remember the 'blocking rumor'. Never bought it and never will.

As for the receiving part, #1 is partly true. High speed receivers tend to get more deep routes and the deeper you throw the ball the harder it is to make the catch. Good reason to have very high catching on Speed arches along with 2 pieces of catch ball gear. With #2, very true. One of the worst things you can do is throw into heavy coverage. The more defenders in the "area" the worse the catch probability gets. This is why when I'm looking at either passing plays for packages or I'm trying to time QB progressions to routes, I fight against anything that puts 2 or more receivers close together when the QB might look their way. I see all the time where defenders covering nearby receivers will converge (very quickly at high levels) on the one receiver the ball is thrown to... causing INT's and all other bad outcomes. So routes that are decently distanced from other receivers are the best. Also, I see a lot of Tampa 2 coverage's (both safeties in zones)... so if you throw deep, keep that in mind.

I mean the blocking thing is literally written on the description for DT when you hover over blocking.

But the bonus to shedding blocks if it still exists was always too small to matter.

Also bort never really built any dots after alpha...
