This is going to be a quick post that shows how Player Building and Offensive Play calling are linked as you grow through the tiers.

This is how I built my latest S* HB Gimli for my LZ6 team (approximately).

Here’s how he started Rookie. http://www.glb2scout.com/vpimages/44_6411_1617616059.png

Let’s look at some key Skill Values:
Conditioning is 65. Toughness is 72. Heart is 13. Balance & Carry Grip of 40. Power Rushing at 48.

For Rookie, I’m going to employ a virtually 100% Passing Offense. I can run on 2nd and Short as well as 3d and Short to get First Downs, but I don’t have the Sprinting nor Conditioning to spam Outside runs. I’ve built Gimli to take advantage of the Cap Boosts on his Conditioning but I can’t buy the 4 Cap Boosters until Soph starts and he doesn’t have any of his 3 earned ones yet. He finishes the season with 370 rushes for a 3.1 yard average. He has 71 Broken Tackles for .2 BRKT per play.

Here’s how he started Sophmore. http://www.glb2scout.com/vpimages/44_6412_1617616076.png

Let’s look at some key Skill Values:
Conditioning is 85. Toughness is 72. Heart is 30. Balance & Carry Grip of 65. Power Rushing at 72.

For Soph, I’m going to employ a 60%/40% Passing Offense. I can now run Inside, but I don’t have the Sprinting to spam Outside runs. I’ve built Gimli to take advantage of the Cap Boosts on his Conditioning and I’ve bought the 4 Cap Boosters but he doesn’t have any of his 3 earned ones yet. His 72 Power Rushing allows him to start Breaking Tackles. He finishes the season with 1032 rushes for a 4.8 yard average. He has 532 Broken Tackles for .51 BRKT per play. Gimli was 6th in all tiers of GLB2 last season (S51) in Broken Tackles.

Quick Side Note

People typically complain that Power HBs don't scale up well, but I disagree. If you want a Power HB at Soph, build a Power HB. Too often people add Sprinting first and then wonder why their Power HB is behind the curve in Soph and Journey. My answer is they didn't build a Power HB. Power rushing takes a lot of Energy. You need to keep your Energy high INTRA-play as well as have a high Power Rushing Skill Value. Gimli focused on Conditioning (adds Energy), Toughness (mitigates Energy loss) and Power Rushing (Skill) with enough Balance and Carry Grip to keep him upright and not be a fumble machine. I'll add the Sprinting last, instead of first.

Here’s how he started Journeyman. http://www.glb2scout.com/vpimages/44_6413_1617616095.png

Let’s look at some key Skill Values:
Conditioning is 90. Toughness is 72. Heart is 43. Balance of 83 and Carry Grip of 96. Power Rushing at 85.

For Journeyman, I’m going to employ the same 60%/40% Passing Offense. I can run Inside on Dives and Off Tackle well, but I still don’t have the Sprinting to spam Outside runs, though I can now add a small amount, like 10% in certain situations. I’ve built Gimli to take advantage of the Cap Boosts on his Conditioning and I’ve bought the 4 Cap Boosters and he now has one of his 3 earned ones.

I use this Technique to Player Building frequently, but not exclusively.

I agree with this post. It depends on the type of HB you are building and at what level you want to add the power skills. He looks like a pure power running HB....those break tackle stats are impressive.

Megatron is more of a hybrid power/speed/quickness....kinda like Fred Taylor. He will be good at power, speed and quickness but not great at any of them (I still think, when healthy, Fred Taylor was the best all around HB ever). He will be golding Power Through and also add gold Freight Train with decent intimidation. I am building speed/quickness first and then adding power running last.

Which is fine. Most do. It allows you to do Outside Running at Rookie & Soph.

But you can't then complain that your power back isn't powerful. (not that you are, it's the comment others have made)

What do U think about changing his height to 6.4 instead of 5.6 . U could ve raise his weight from 220 to 260 to be even more power back . Why not to make him shaped like a lineman too?

I'm not sure anyone has specifically tested this and I'm not sure how except putting 2 S* HB on the same team with the same stats and just varying the height and weight of each. And then you'd need a ton of data to figure it out.

Being shorter gives you:

+1 Conditioning
+1 Quickness
+2 Balance

Is that better than being taller and heavier but having slightly less stats? I don't really know.

IIRC correctly, Bort revealed in a seasonal update that weight had an impact on tackle grip. It was at least a few years ago, so my memory is fuzzy, but I think he tweaked it so that heavier tacklers would have a harder time being dragged by a ball carrier.

So weight has a direct affect on the game. We just have no idea how significant it is.

No one has been able to prove its impact beyond how it affects your player build.

Height and weight impact the maximum number in some stats by up to 3 points.
(I did a min/max comparison for all the positions when I first started playing and prior to getting GLB2Scout)

They also factor into momentum rolls for breaking tackles, and into rolls on how quick you can cut. Not sure about top-end speed, but if it does it's not much there.

We don't know how much it effects the break tackle rolls, but it has effects beyond just skill caps iirc.

Legend.

Really insightful. This means I done goofed on my current S* HB. I didn't realize it was possible to have a power rushing HB actually be useful as early as sophomore. I put too much into Sprinting. I'll probably have to respec after this season, if that's even something you can do after rookie.

You can respec but it's only one season worth of SP. So if you do it at the end of Soph, then it will take your HB to how he ended Rookie. It's not a full respec.

That said, if you are eventually going to use the Sprinting, you don't really need to do a respec. You'll get there. Just make sure your OC is calling the right plays for your build now.

Well I showed this back in S25 with FB Garbage Truck. It was before a tier was eliminated so (then) Journeyman is the (now) Sophmore.

Here's a game where he broke 79 tackles and rushed for 800 yards. https://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/game/454291

His all-time stats are on his player page: https://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/253628

And he's the #1 FB on the HOF All-Time.

He's how I proved the Balance bug in the code (I had suspected something was wrong). I ran a 1 S* Offense (him) that was all FB runs. He was breaking tackles like crazy with a 16 Balance in (old)Journeyman/(new)Soph. Because of this, CDog/Bort began looking at the code and realized the Balance check was REVERSED from their intention. High Balance hurt you and Low Balance helped. They hotfixxed it in the middle of a season (I forget which, it's in the Changelog).

After the bug was fixed, I did a respec and brought him up to the 48 he has on his page now.
