My guess is this dot got added to the team manually by Support after the dot was 1000d old. 1000d+ dots can re-sign contracts with an existing team, but can't be sent new contracts through the system if they are/become FAs. I assume when the game was coded, no one foresaw 'retirement teams' with dots 1000d+ would be a thing, so '999' was used as the 'maximum' value. However, Owners/Agents can request a 1000d+ dot be added manually to a team. When Support manually adds, the contract is "frozen" (doesn't expire) until/unless a new contract is offered by the team. At least this is how it's worked in the past. On my retirement team (Elysium Immortals), I always send out new contracts, so you don't usually see this "quirk".

Side note, we've got room for 1 more 480d+ dot on Elysium Immortals this season if anyone's interested!

When this was a viable game, Bort had set a limit on how old a player can be to receive a contract. This is because he didn't want idiots doing stupid shit. At some point the game's activity massively plummeted (mostly due to said idiots and their stupid shit) and in an odd mixture of desperation and ennui, those running this game decided that they would cowtow to any idiot who still paid (however little) to play it. So now you have whole teams full of these idiots who have contracts that shouldn't exist by the rules of the game, and who knows how much money this game is losing because real players quit when they see that stupid shit. Its sad. The answer to your question is: its not legitimate. That is why he is playing on a contract that doesn't even exist. Even by the loose rules of GLB, its not allowed and is 'impossible', yet there you are. If you didn't know already, its a troll paradise...
