We're grinding our way to the top, want to join us? Independent club blessed with great dot builders and a fun atmosphere, but very serious about wanting to compete all the way to the highest level. The only constant in life is change, so we'll be looking for a few replacement dots come next season, gimme a holler if you have one that you think fits, or just drop me a line if you have any questions or something. Thanks!

Needed (200 day old for S85):
TE - blocking
DT - run-stuffer

I'm with Austin Energy, so no (my amount used may have jumped (when it was on!) for heat during the cold snap, but the underlying rates can't be changed except by the city legislators) - at least not like some of the horror stories on the news, where some companies charge rates to residential customers based on pure spot electricity prices from the market. There are going to be drastic long-term structural changes to the grid, and how it's administered, in Texas, that's for sure.

Hey slughead
I'm in the DFW area. Given that Austin is not deregulated like most of Texas, I'm curious what you pay per KW hour? I'm in the Oncor electric delivery area (my wife actually works there) but obviously use whatever retail electric provider that has the best fixed rates (about 8 cents/ KWh in my current contract.

For those outside of Texas that have heard stories of people getting hit with $5k+ electric bills... that is true but those people made the decision on their own to enter into a variable rate contract that clearly states the price will fluctuate with market rates that are based on supply and demand. I'm sure none expected that large of a price jump, but they knew the rates could change up or down and they gambled (wrongly) that rates would drop.

I don't really know what their rate is, to be honest, but I'm sure it's probably roughly competitive with what you're paying, since they're both fixed rates. Like you said, I'm sure that when people in Texas signed up for variable rate plans with private companies after deregulation, the potential price surges weren't stressed in the websites/brochures, I'm sure they emphasized the potential savings when things were normal.
