I live in WA & I'd say 90% of the people here wear masks (including myself). Of those 90%, maybe 10% don't wear it over their nose - which is annoying - either wear it right or not!

My problem with masks is that the wearing of them and what you can or cannot do does not make any sense. Almost a year ago it was "two weeks to flatten the curve" and now you have Fauci saying we'll be wearing them in 2022.

Where does it end? I just saw a report today that the Flu (which kills a lot of people annually) is a historic lows. Last year at this time, most states were reporting high to very high Flu activity, this year every state is reporting minimal activity. What's to stop our fearless leaders from saying masks will be a requirement moving forward to stop the flu? Are we all going to be on high alert from now on, anytime any health issue appears are we all going to be required to mask up? This is the problem.

These are some of my same worries!

^ COMPLY OR DIE!! 1 WAY OR THE OTHER!! Do we really want to go down this road to protect everyone all the time?? THE GOVERNMENT WILL PROTECT YOU AS LONG AS YOU DO WHAT WE SAY!! Fascists or Socialists both take away your personal freedoms in order to fulfill their agenda.

Several things. Start with the fact that the flu and this virus are WAY different. If you get the flu, you KNOW you have the flu. If you go around others. sniffling, coughing, feverish, ect, ect... most people with either run away from you or tell you to get away from them. Companies send flu-sick employees home rather than lost half their employees that way. You can have Covid and NEVER show a symptom... NEVER feel sick at all... but spread the disease around and kill others without ever knowing you did so.
Next is stupidity. I cannot even begin to count the number of times I have overheard, or seen posted online, people say "I don't have the virus because I'd know it if I was sick." or "These masks don't protect me so why should I wear them?" or "Not everyone dies from this stuff so why are we doing this?" There's more but you get the picture. Masks aren't supposed to protect you from the virus... they're a way to protect others against those that have the virus and don't know it. We had several such incidents where I live and there's a plethora of those that are regretting their original 'maskless mindset' after it's either sickened a family member or taken the life of someone close. Masks are NOT the ultimate solution... they will never guarantee 100% perfect success in stopping the spread of the virus... but they help along with washing hands and avoiding (close) contact as much as you possible can.
And as far as the government demanding masks every single time the flu pops up or some other similar situation, I'm not really worried. We're pretty good at keeping the flu from killing off 500,000 people a year... and when it comes to other 'viruses' we quickly forget we've already had a few recently and each was approached according to scientific recommendations. There was the Zika virus (bad for pregnant women and carried by mosquitoes)... the Ebola virus (very bad... very deadly... very contagious... and was properly attacked hard at it's source [Africa] and the few cases we had here were brought here under the tightest restrictions so those people could be treated in very special quarantine areas)... and others. Each threat has been met with intelligent purpose and goals based on science and each was handled just fine. Nobody screamed government overreach about those because of how quick the response and the attack to defeat it before it could do world-wide damage. This particular virus was nothing like that and we weren't the only country with the problem. And other countries also followed the science to defeat it. Those that didn't, or didn't do well in getting a handle on it fast enough, suffered just as we did.
This isn't an American problem... it's a world problem. And should something like it come again I would hope everyone learned something from our failures here. Science matters. It's not just some trick to 'take away your freedoms'... it's to try and keep us all alive. Everywhere. I can only imagine the super deep sh*t we would be in if this virus was twice as deadly as it is... say on the level of the bubonic plague? What we're going through is mild compared to what it might have been. I, for one, am very thankful for that.

As long as you anti-maskers stay in your parents basement playing GLB without a mask, it's all good. Thinking "the government" is trying to take away all your rights while you willfully zombie away half your life in front of a computer screen is lol. And I'm raising my own hand.

Why do we have to see the Bullshit about wearing a mask when we cant have a discussion about not wearing one? DD is a liberal hands down. If the No mask thread gets moved, so should the wear mask thread.

I'm 100% for taking them all down, including this one. It'd be cool if at least GLB's main forum were only for GLB-related posts...

It's funny the number of people who bump this thread telling everyone that it's dumb that this thread keeps getting bumped.
