I have been a player/owner here since the very first season, more than 15 years ago. And I am SICK of losing to CPU teams. This started in earnest 2 seasons ago, and continues this season. Humbly? I know how to play this game. I know there are always upsets. But this is ridiculous. The game SIM and the entire site for that matter is not being maintained any longer. Is this the end? That means your dot-building technique is a bit lacking. You're probably not as good at this game as you think you are, to put it bluntly.
Also, I'm guessing you took this win for granted because the team is CPU owned? Bad assumption. A 10-second glance at their team page should've shown you that they went 3-1 pre-season and should be taken seriously. To be blunt, you should have treated them like a legit team, but you didn't, and you got burned. Working as intended.
Bort has never -- NEVER -- stated that games against CPU-owned teams are supposed to be auto-wins. They're not supposed to be auto-wins. Play accordingly.

If the previous owner had a good team and the AI is still in place then the cpu team will have a pretty good squad.

^^^ This. Any team that was formerly owned then left and nobody has bought is since then whatever AI's got left there are still what the CPU teams uses (especially if selected as such from the Tactics page) and CPU dots aren't the 'pushovers' they use to be.

15 YEARS and I have never heard of him in the 12 years this game has been around.

Those were not good dots. At all. Retiring them was a pretty smart move, actually, because it was only to get worse from here.
