I was under the information from one person that quickness is the main thing that effects the speed of a player turning round however i have also got told that balance and footwork helps turning round too so i'm getting a wider view from everyone.

Also 2nd part this question is if all 3 of these stats help which has the most effect in improving the ability of turning around and does footwork and balance need the quickness to improve the ability to turn round.

Just from watching countless games of my players- I'd say footwork is #1 for turning around quickly. Quickness appears to me to give you acceleration and quicker reactions to course correct up the field. Balance helps to not fall down while turning around and also keeping upright in collisions.

When I am watching the games, I see a lot of times a TE / WR will be running up the field then stop and then back pedal to face the QB and make the catch. I've seen TEs/WRs make those type of catches with 20 or less footwork and lower balance...

So while it would make sense that footwork would help a TE/WR make catches it doesn't appear to be the case from what I've seen.

In my experience, footwork helps more on adjustments and small shifts in your running pattern, where quickness helps on very sharp turns and getting back up to speed after them.

balance just helps to make sure you don't stumble and slow yourself down that way.

And I've built guys with 60 footwork and 20 quickness, they turned around on spot like they were anchored, whereas 60 quickness and 20 footwork they spin like a top. Unless they majorly overhauled this mechanic since about 15-20 seasons ago (which actually is quite possible, I should do another stress test on them) - that's what it do.

What CBs are you referring to that you have made Raid and what type of performance results can you share? Looking through your retired players, I only see two CBs that you have really made and rolled through vet with and one was a pickup.

Edit: My bad for sounding like I was unloading a bit. He is talking about a CB, not a WR. Kind of assumed that was in there. Footwork is huge for CBs obviously, so I just pushed that route.

not CBs, typically my tests were HBs and the 'turning' was watched when they'd try to get set up for a screen pass.

high quickness guys would get spun around for the catch in a blink, low quickness they'd be turning for literal seconds.

I'm just talking specifically about turning around on spot quickly, which as far as I can tell is an aspect of quickness. Footwork helps immensely in backpedaling and on adjustments when sprinting at full speed.

Are we talking the ability to just do a solid 180 turn around?

That's what I took from the question.

One aspect I didn't consider is that for a CB the player is asked to start moving before completing the turnaround, he has to slow down and maybe even start the other direction while turning - which means footwork WILL play a part in it and be a factor in getting moving the other way faster - but initial deceleration is balance and quickness, the turn itself is almost entirely quickness, and the acceleration once you get turned is also quickness.

So a 60 quick 50 footwork guy will obviously do better than a 60 quick 20 footork - but in that one particular case not by as much as you'd think.

That being said, footwork is so important for mostly every other situation that a CB gets into, you'd be nuts to neglect it.
