Can someone explain what exactly this ability does and why it is valuable to have? I'm confused because it says the Activation Condition is NOT BEING HURRIED. Isn't the whole point of having your QB checkdown is because he is being hurried? Why would I want him to check down if he isn't being hurried??

Hurried is a situation that happens if someone gets really close to the QB to hurry him to throw a pass but Quick read seems to look for someone that is open a bit faster or even someone to pass a bit quicker so he does not need to be hurried. If you get hurried you probably have pressure on your QB and they are more likely to make a mistake.

It allows the QB to go thru check-downs much more quickly, so the chance of being hurried, in theory, is less. The QB can use the SA while not being hurried, basically means up until he is throwing the ball.

It also says while activated- QB checkdown ability is increased. Does that just mean he is going to throw it to the RB instead of the WRs and TEs?

Just means that he cycles through the receiver options faster on the play which may or may not be a good thing.

Is there an example of when it would or would not be a good thing?

It can cause you to miss the “hot” zones of the routes. If it’s a slower developing route you’ll look away when the guy breaks open

Quick Read makes it harder to control where the ball will go as a playcaller. A QB will spend less time staring down his primary read.

However, it reduces the chance your QB will get sacked as he'll progress through his reads more quickly.

This is interesting. I'm curious if it works to find the most open receiver

He will throw it when he “finds” the open guy, but like I mentioned it screws up the primary hot spot in a route I think if that’s still a thing.

It can in theory help you against cookie cutter defenses.
