3 - Cousins was mediocre and played the double franchise game, and then got a stupid huge contract

It just depends on how driven he is. No one knows where his head is at now, or where it will be 8 months from now. $81M is nothing to sneeze at, on top of what he already had. Maybe he'll just Luck out of football completely.

Why would it be a dick move for Dallas to franchise him? Sure as shit doesn't make financial sense to sign him to a long-term deal for even more money coming off an injury. It makes me laugh all the people (I assume Millennials) out there screaming that Jones is evil and should still pay Dak the same long-term contract he would have given him before the injury. Lala land philosophy from the same economic noobs who want the government to keep printing money and giving it to them for free. It's a business, not a charity. I'm not a Dallas or Jones fan, so I have no dog in the hunt. I like Dak, but he had options on the table and he made his choice knowing the risk he was taking. He demanded to be the highest paid player in football. He would accept nothing less. Guess what, he's a great player, but he's not the best player in football, and demanding that kind of money only hurts your team's chance to win. Roll the dice, lose, suffer the consequences, move on. Real world.

Imo if you wanna discuss football, you should at least spell names correctly. It's DALTON

I think Dak knows he messed up by not accepting the Cowboy's offer now that he's hurt. Sadly this gives Dallas some leverage, and while I think he will get a pretty big contract, it will be less than what Dallas originally offered him. It sucks, but it's a business.

Been going on since 2008 in US, longer in Japan. It is the real world now. As demographics continue to shift so do majority opinions as to what's normal and what's 'right'. Those with money (individuals and corporations) now socialize their risks when their decisions lead to failure but not their gains when they don't. (crony capitalism). We may well be surprised how the player's union, formal and informal, continues to change the money side of the game. Just look how they've interjected BLM.

no it doesn't

they can franchise him for like $38M

or let him go and be a free agent

Dallas doesn't have the upper hand here - Dak does - this isn't an Alex Smith injury

I understand the franchise tag, it was probably going to happen regardless. They definitely can't afford to do it for a 3rd year. I was mainly talking about a 3-4 year contract he wanted.I just don't see him getting what he asked for or what was offered from the Cowboys. I never said it was an Alex Smith injury, and I'm not even implying it's anything near it

if he doesn't get the deal he wants. he signs a franchise tag again and would easily get $40M as a free agent for whatever length he wanted

Jets, Jags, Bears....I mean the teams that would love to be done chasing their QB would be long

I don't think the Cowboys can afford a 3rd year franchise tag.

My point is he left about $80 million of guaranteed money on the table if this was a career ending injury. I think that is in the back of his head. He may take a lower offer knowing the unknown and I'd imagine Jerry may try to low ball him. Also Dallas cap is a problem.

He may come back in 2021 and kill it, and get what he's worth from Dallas or any team, you never know. Just my opinion
