From a team perspective, Dallas wasn't a contender so he could go to a scrub team with a ton of cap space... Maybe the Jets move on from Darnold, and draft another high end position of need.

How much would it sting JJ, if Washington pulls the plug on Haskins?

Or maybe he goes the contender route, for less per year, but longer term.

Rivers is playing behind one of the best o-lines in the league on a 1-year $25m contract. Cam is on a 1-year deal. Big Ben is getting up there, is Rudolph the answer?

all good points but:

I can't imagine Dallas signing him for the long-term contract they already offered, and no other team is signing him for what they would have paid him before the injury. I'd guess his best bet is to have Dallas franchise him again, prove he's back to 100% next season, and then, maybe, get a deal at least close to what he could have gotten before the injury. I hope I'm wrong, but a career-threatening injury plus a 2-year state of limbo doesn't seem to logically add up to no lost $$$.

Hope he had insurance

He does, but not to make up for the $144 million gamble he took by holding out. I heard he had ~$50 mil in endorsements + insurance.

He's still young. Hopefully he comes back at 100% and makes his money in the long-run. I think he'll find some way to survive this year on the $31.4 mil he's getting paid this season...

Disagree with you here. Jerry had said earlier this year it wasn't when Dak was going to he paid, but how much. Im sure he was going to get a fat contract. Nothing like Patrick got, but it probably was going to be a 5-8 year deal worth a dick ton.

...but not as much as if he didn't get hurt.

That’s one tough dude, I did the same thing to my leg in the ocean. I most certainly did not try and kick it back into place afterwords.

I wouldn't be surprised. But he would have gotten more without the injury. No one snaps their ankle, becomes a huge question mark for future ability/mobility, and becomes more valuable.

what if they win with daulton? to me Bledsoe was a better QB than dak is but when he got hurt and brady stepped in we won. if daulton does that or even makes the playoffs then Dak is screwed

what exactly do you mean by this? just curious cause im a commercial fisherman and did do this exactly in the ocean.the bottom of my foot was facing up towards me. i did put it back in place by myself cause i was all alone and had no help. then drove about 45 minutes to get back to shore where an ambulance was waiting for me. it didnt hurt like you think it would.

i actually did something similar when i was younger, i was sliding handrails on my skateboard, and dislocated my foot 180 degrees backwards and 180 degrees upside down. i couldnt kick mine back into place.. surgery

Yeah, I'm pretty sure those tears were just as much the realization of season and $$$ lost as they were for pain. Not that I wouldn't cry like a baby if it happened to me regardless.

Eh... not exactly. For sure Daulton's stock would rise and he'd likely find work as a competing starter for a job somewhere (else?) but unless Dak is totally toast... lost for either multiple seasons OR for life... then Andy is just another possible starter-turned-backup-turned-starter-again (Foles style maybe?). Sure, Bledsoe got replaced by Brady... but Bledsoe was already in his fading years at that time. Note when Brady got replaced by Cassel that did extremely well... then got benched when Brady came back and Cassel ended up with a contract with the Chiefs... only to flame right the hell back out again? And where Brady now? Instead Bil grabbed Cam Newton for dirt cheap and is winning with him now and Brady is finding Tampa to be not as easy as I think he thought it would be. Nah. As long as Dak is fine... or will be fine by start of next season, Jerry will sign him easy enough. Maybe for a discount... but still sign him for sure. Just remember what he did with Romo and you have your map for Dak.

I was body surfing and instead of going head first it kind of twisted me in the curl and put me sideways where the first thing that hit was my foot and ankle. I did the same exact thing Dak did, the compound fracture, dislocated ankle...Where your ankle sits in a pocket and theres no pocket anymore. The doctor has to recreate it. I had to crawl out of the surf and up on to the beach, gave it a look...and lied back down until the ambulance came.

This is true. But this whole sentiment that he's now screwed, is also probably over blown.
1 - it would be a dick move for Dallas to play that card
2 - if Dallas does play that card, he could just do Lev Bell and refuse -- just depends on if he's mad enough at JJ
3 - Cousins was mediocre and played the double franchise game, and then got a stupid huge contract

It just depends on how driven he is. No one knows where his head is at now, or where it will be 8 months from now. $81M is nothing to sneeze at, on top of what he already had. Maybe he'll just Luck out of football completely.
