Basically the penalty is easy to see in their play, when heart gets low your player moves slower, reacts slower, overall plays a lot worse. The buff from high morale is a bit harder to see, but there is definitely a pickup in everything when you get higher, especially in reaction times and quick movements - I don't think there is a speed bump from high morale, but quickness and footwork seem to get a boost.
And energy is easy to see, when you run out your player just bogs down, the loss of speed and quickness is quite noticeable.
As to how much it is, not sure. But it's a large amount. The energy negative is easier to see as it seem to effect the physicals more than the morale one, but being drained of energy doesn't seem to effect mental skills as much as being drained of morale does.
