AND if you tag players individually, do you HAVE TO use the tagged defense in order for the tagging to work or can you tag individual players & then play a different type of defense (run focus, pass focus, balanced etc.)? and is tagging a passing qb as a passer, pointless or hurtful (will defense always assume he's there to pass, when he may sometimes handoff for the run)?

Yes it works but some teams are good at using the tags against you. You must use tagged defense or a custom one. And tagging passer doesn't hurt if the backs and tight ends are tagged as well

I find myself saying this a lot... but this is not football it is a simulation.

Most of what you are saying makes no sense in the simulation.

The way AI works is you create scenarios (say 1st and 10, and if tagging, 1st and 10 with rushing qb and power hb or w/e scenario in the world you want) and then you dictate which play(s) you would like to run in that scenario.

Any time the sim tries to match a scenario in an AI but fails it will default to calling the "automatic" offense/defense (this is where those pass/run inside/outside sliders COULD come into play.

If you choose the preset defenses that is just where someone made an AI many years ago and Bort decided to give us access to a few user-made ones because of how clearly bad the "automatic" ones were.

In order for "tagging" to make a difference you will have to choose an AI where those "tags" are in the listed scenarios...

That being said, figure out making your own AI because the basic ones are utter and complete terds.

yes, you use tags to take away weapons and to match personnel. Like if you tag a Blocking TE, then you probably don't have to worry about double teaming him with coverage dots. If you tag a TE as a receiver, you probably want use a coverage dot or 2, instead of Heavy Hitters for example.

Tags are only a label. They don't intrinsically do anything. You have to make inputs and outputs based on the tags in the defensive Ai, or tags do nothing.

Any OC worth their salt will of course hand the ball off with a passing QB, and most of the others will do it accidentally if nothing else. However, you probably want some way of differentiating between passing and running QBs.

If you are using casual presets then you should be aware that the tagging system is limited and imperfect. I think that the cpu tagging system has the rqb tag over-riding other tabs...So in effect the defense will ignore the type of HB etc if there is a rqb @ QB....Dont quote me but I believe that came up before

The advantage of regular tagging is that as TJ says you can have combinations of tagging and can move the inputs around to suit each opponent if you so wish

And adding to TJs point 3 .....if you use a PHB in combo with a rQB you have the potential to run inside or outside depending on how you scout the oppo defense

Which is part of what makes def co-ording a challenge as that great factor TIME comes into play...As you go up in age groups you may find that teams scout and gameplan less in regular season games so as to have some ammo for playoff matchups. Or basically use some of that time for future use when it matters
