the general public being stupid = no fans, not the stoppage of sportsP'much. Although (IMHO) I think the big difference is that Professional sports can play on and survive. Fans can be stupid if they want but it won't come back on any of the teams involved. Whereas, in College... where we've already seen all the wonderful intelligent college age kids making intelligent choices by holding 'Covid parties' and packing night clubs and beaches and generally ignoring all intelligent 'suggestions' concerning the virus... yeah... I'm sure that the football games won't have any "off field" consequences that cause kids to miss a semester (or worse) and parents suing colleges for lost tuition and 'damages'.
Also I'm pretty sure Pro sports TV revenue packages differ from College. Pro teams will get their TV $ and their teams network coverage’s are preset when the schedules are made. College schedules are based on 'rankings', personal packages, and other things so there are no guarantees of contract fulfillments.
