It would not surprise me if several power 5 schools leave the NCAA and create their own rules. The Universities already make good money from football, however, once these schools leave the NCAA basketball tournament and create their own...it's over for the NCAA. TV contracts and timing...only a matter of time.

In some ways I think the different Conferences (and the NCAA's) problem isn't the teams themselves. If, like the NFL, they could simply play empty stadiums and not worry about the fans for a season then I think they'd go for it. But you're talking College kids... who've already shown total disregard for rules concerning COVID... and rivalry games and... and ... and. Possible lawsuits from parents whose kids get sick (or die) because they did something stupid... huge loss of revenue from TV because their games won't get the same 'love' as the NFL does... all that and I can see why there might be no football this fall.

We brought it on ourselves. (Let the beatings begin ) I wonder if soccer is canceled too . We should be in the same shape as Europe except we cant control ignorance and arrogance, IMHO. Maybe we will get a “virtual” football season like NASCAR started, a multi-billion dollar version of Madden Covid-2020 edition.

college kids going to parties and not social distancing is why

the NFL will play

MLB is playing

Nascar is racing

Golf is playing

the general public being stupid = no fans, not the stoppage of sports

P'much. Although (IMHO) I think the big difference is that Professional sports can play on and survive. Fans can be stupid if they want but it won't come back on any of the teams involved. Whereas, in College... where we've already seen all the wonderful intelligent college age kids making intelligent choices by holding 'Covid parties' and packing night clubs and beaches and generally ignoring all intelligent 'suggestions' concerning the virus... yeah... I'm sure that the football games won't have any "off field" consequences that cause kids to miss a semester (or worse) and parents suing colleges for lost tuition and 'damages'.

Also I'm pretty sure Pro sports TV revenue packages differ from College. Pro teams will get their TV $ and their teams network coverage’s are preset when the schedules are made. College schedules are based on 'rankings', personal packages, and other things so there are no guarantees of contract fulfillments.
