When exactly does this activate? Only for FBs when leading a HB or is this the awareness of the blocker knowing when the ball carrier is close and turning their hips to the holes? Wonder how much of a need it is for OTs or Cs

Essentially anything that is not 'block the guy in front of you' it is lead blocking awareness, as CD describes it.

So blocking awareness is fairly safe to leave somewhat low, though you do need some, and lead blocking seems to be where you want to put a little extra so you move well and engage the right guy.

Your not wrong. Guards pulling, FB leading, but i think what raid was explaining is it can be activated any where on the field. KOR the 3 players in front of return man would need lead blocking, a WR on a sweep in trips formatin who not being covered heads on snap, pretty much if the player has to move to find a defender with the ball carrier behind him, essentially is "Lead Blocking".

From how CD describes it, the ball carrier doesn't even have to be behind you, just anytime you're not playing as an offensive linemen essentially.

He literally said it's any time besides when the play has you set to just block the guy directly in front of you, so WRs probably also blocking awareness is the main thing on the initial block... but any subsequent blocks probably lead block aware.

I don't remember saying any of that.

I'll go back and find it, but the jist was something along the lines of:

"If the play has a designed block in it, a guy right in front of you to block on - it's blocking awareness. If the play calls for the block to be to an area instead, it's lead blocking awareness"
