Personally speaking I am being plagued by drops. And I mean like wide open drops. My receivers are built really well at this level for my scheme so I figured “hm, probably this Russell Wilson wannabe QB” but no matter how much tech I keep pumping in it gets worse.

Normally I’d be all for waiting, but I run a west coast team so my guys are literally only built to catch and go. My problem with the drops is that my guys are religiously catching passes in some questionable windows, it looks like college football out there.

Have I created a group of egotistical maniacs? Why are my guys constantly dropping the ball deep when open (and I mean open, no “defense blah blah” talk I’m talking straight drops) but want to make catches over 2-3 defenders..

Please, your ideas?

footwork and balance being too low used to cause me drop problems. Footwork helps last second adjustments and balance ensures they don't have the negative for being off balance trying to adjust with a low footwork. If your guys have either of those super low think about bumping them up just a smidge. Other than that, I dunno.

agree with that also but with that many inactives in key rec positions its a uphill battle

I can feel that.

I mentioned the balance and footwork primarily because I’d figure most would know drops are almost entirely governed by receiving hands, just those 2 areas are places a lot of people might keep too low to make other facets of their build work and can lead to drop issues, and if morale gets low they can be amplified.

Like others have said. Footwork and balance matter. Hands, of course too. I think consistency matters also. I've made quite a few rQBs with low Pass tech, and don't see many drops after rookie.

would you know the "ratio" of pass tech needed to make up for rec consistency being low or vise versa? interesting to think you QB with low pass tech has few drops because his WRs have high consistency.

This is something purely anecdotal, but I’ve noticed for as long as I have played this game, is that there are more dropped passes against zone defenses.

Zone used to be super rare, but lately a lot more teams are running it.

My theory is that there are more wide open receivers, less catch in traffic rolls and therefore more dropped passes. (I don’t know how the code works, but if catch in traffic comes before actually catching the ball, then when you get a catch in traffic fail you don’t even see if there is a catch fail after that. And there are more catch in traffic fails against a man defense).

I also feel like there’s “crowding”. There are windows where it looks like a defender could make a play, but when they don’t the receiver makes last minute adjustments to try and catch it. Might just be me though

Rec consistency is usually one of the first things I put SP in for a receiver(especially TEs). Mainly because it impacts how they deal with 3rd downs and in the red zone. As for Pass Tech....I find rec Hands is more important, as is distance. Some 15 seasons ago, Bort nerfed passing and added in balance as part of the equation.

There's no golden ratio, try to get rec consistency up as early as you can.
