Does this also apply for a CB trying to get an INT?

Catch Chance +5%

Improve your chances of catching any pass by 5%. Increases by an additional 1% for each upgrade

It does but you are much better off with Intercept chance

Truth

For CBs, Catch % only come into affect after the WR has failed his catch roll. Basically, the INTs that happen by the ball bouncing off the receiver when he should have caught it.

Man... I wish had this sh*t written down because I know it's been hashed out before but I always thought the play went like this;

#1. Incoming ball must be seen by all parties. You don't see the ball, you're not part of the play equation.

#2. Battle for right to try the catch between WR and defender(s).

(2A) Receiver wins right. Makes catch attempt after all bonuses and penalties applied.
(2A-1) Receiver makes Catch.
(2A-2) Defender gets shot at KL.
(2A-3) Defender gets shot at Tackle/force fumble.
(2A-1a) Receiver fails to make catch. [go to 2B]

(2B) Defender wins right. Makes INT or Deflect attempt.
(2B-1) Defender fails in INT/Deflect attempt. [return to 2A and go from there]
(2B-2) Defender succeeds in INT. Receiver can now attempt tackle.
(2B-2a) Defender makes Deflect. [go to 2A from here and continue if Receiver has SA's or VA's to allow adjustment to ball or 2nd try at a catch.]

Bonus play; If the Receiver fails a catch then the Defender also fails Deflect/Int attempt, there are certain VA's that allow a second shot at a play on the ball. (By both Receiver and Defender?) [I'd have to go look that all up in my nots and am currently pressed for time.]

Ok, I asked because he already has an int piece and rolled a 5% catch.
Thanks for the info!

There's actually conflicting info.

In the bort stalker about interception, he says catch% and int% are basically the same thing.

Buried in the Q&a, there's a question specifically about by catch% gear and which phase it affects. Bort breaks it down with yes/no. The very last phase of a catch, after the cb has gone and missed, and the WR has gone and missed, is a straight catching roll to see if anyone in the area can catch the ricochet. Catch gear is the % and also the catching SAs (diving, one hand etc...)

It was an order of operations discussion, and I cant remember the exact order but I think it was such that CB CATCH chance was basically last, so the thought was you can do catch % gear, however the odds it even gets to that roll are fairly low, and then the thought was even if it did make it to the "can the CB catch the ball" against a WR with no deflect skills the thought was anybody with 40+ catching would make the catch.....

I think at the end of the day, if I was building a dot specifically for INTs and didn't have to worry about tackling or anything else, I'd probably invest in Diving Catch SA, and have a Catch % piece.

Especially with how much catching and jumping go into a INT dot anyway.

please god no.

AF%
MT%
INT%
INT%

DB% or AF% for CE

can a top WL team say that they would take CB% over something else?

PK is correct - no Catch Ball % for defensive players - there are far better options

every defensive dot has to worry about tackling

Yeah keep that in mind, all you aspiring World Leaguers... That one team that you're probably not on won't be interested your dot if it's not built to their formula.

For everyone else, try what you want. It's your dot and your money, and you'll probably get bored with the dot before the year and a half it takes to grow up is over... Either that or the team you're on will fall apart anyway.

Thanks for all the help auto correct.
