For CBs, Catch % only come into affect after the WR has failed his catch roll. Basically, the INTs that happen by the ball bouncing off the receiver when he should have caught it.
Man... I wish had this sh*t written down because I know it's been hashed out before but I always thought the play went like this;
#1. Incoming ball must be seen by all parties. You don't see the ball, you're not part of the play equation.
#2. Battle for right to try the catch between WR and defender(s).
(2A) Receiver wins right. Makes catch attempt after all bonuses and penalties applied.
(2A-1) Receiver makes Catch.
(2A-2) Defender gets shot at KL.
(2A-3) Defender gets shot at Tackle/force fumble.
(2A-1a) Receiver fails to make catch. [go to 2B]
(2B) Defender wins right. Makes INT or Deflect attempt.
(2B-1) Defender fails in INT/Deflect attempt. [return to 2A and go from there]
(2B-2) Defender succeeds in INT. Receiver can now attempt tackle.
(2B-2a) Defender makes Deflect. [go to 2A from here and continue if Receiver has SA's or VA's to allow adjustment to ball or 2nd try at a catch.]
Bonus play; If the Receiver fails a catch then the Defender also fails Deflect/Int attempt, there are certain VA's that allow a second shot at a play on the ball. (By both Receiver and Defender?)
[I'd have to go look that all up in my nots and am currently pressed for time.]
