When I used to game plan the dump pass was the backs and the Te running into the flats. At least that is how I used to think of it and it seemed to operate at an extremely high efficiency

I'm not 100% sure. I remember way back in the 30s I did a little experimenting with my rushing QB in a few scrims... I would call pass plays with custom progressions that only aimed at positions that weren't actually on the field for that play, with my QB's tactics set to discourage passing and encourage tucking-and-running as early as possible. My goal was for my QB to attempt 0 passes... yet every time I tried this, on every pass play, his targeting laser would activate somehow on someone, sometimes more than one dot -- and while he'd usually tuck-and-run eventually, he'd always attempt a handful of passes in those games. (And look awful at it -- yikes!) I never got it right, and eventually I abandoned the project.

The only thing I can think of is that if you attempt an "impossible" custom progression, the sim reverts to that play's natural default progression, but I don't know for sure.

i would guess not.

occasionally, on a regular pass play, the QB will have time to get through all 5 of his progressions. The Ai chooses who the next progression is.

In your case, I believe the Ai would choose it's own progression, but Dump Pass tactics could come into play if the QB was under pressure.

Never heard of anyone actually trying that though, at least not in a while. Many moons ago, there were all kinds of things being done to get QBs to run more often.

we're right in the off/preseason window... give it a shot..

edit: yeah like this

I can only tell you this (and take with a grain of salt); When I was OCing for the team my QB was on... so I KNEW what the settings were and, yes, I had him set for 'Dump Pass'... I tried a bit of what Novus spoke of and targeted only 1 or 2 receivers in the progressions. Not once did my QB throw to someone I did not target in the progressions... not even to a wide open Scat FB (several times )... which killed me off from doing the 'one or two only' in the progression tree. As for did he ever throw a 'dump pass'? Dunno. Wasn't worried about it so I wasn't trying to find out if/when he was doing it.
