Hello everyone.

I’m a new returning player, having enjoyed GLB1.

I’m building HBs and finding it hard, in pickup games, to draw conclusions about optimal builds.

So I’d really appreciate hearing from experienced players - what HBs are you building? Elusive or power HBs?

And what skills and SAs would you emphasise in either scenario?

Super Star or non Star?

I've seen some cool combo backs so that can be done too.

Super Star Power Backs are pretty awesome. If it's a non star it's probably easier to do an Elusive.

I'd say either way don't forget to have high Conditioning and Balance.

Thank you. I’m planning a superstar player.

From looking at the forum, it seems that emphasising sprinting, conditioning and power running are key. Is that right?

What else would you emphasise? And how much would you put on balance and toughness for a power runner?

Depends on whether you want a power back or an elusive back. They have different priorities.

Just saw it looks like you want a power runner.

Power runners need a lot of carrying grip, conditioning, toughness, balance, and power running. Carrying grip, conditioning and power running need to be like 80+. Maybe toughness and balance can be a little lower.

How much sprinting you want depends on what kind of power runner you want. Some power backs have a lot of sprinting. They want to break a couple of tackles and take it to the house. They get like 80 sprinting and sacrifice some toughness and balance. Other people just build tanks and don't do more than 60 sprinting.

Also try to aim for like 60 or so carrying awareness.

Thanks, that's really helpful.

What does the carrying awareness do for power backs? Is it about supporting Stiff Arm (which looks like the second best SA after Power Through)?

Or have I misread it?

I'm curious as to which the consensus here feel is more effective.

It looks like power backs are, but please correct me if you disagree!

Carrying awareness helps with pathing, play action fakes, and firing SAs consistently.

It's crucial for elusive HBs but still important for power backs.

Don't forget Brace for Impact. It's often the first SAs Power backs get. Power backs are prone to fumbling because they take so many shots. Elusive RBs don't get hit the same way power backs do.

Both can be good. It depends on the meta.

Power backs can really beat up on unprepared teams but can be stopped cold by defenses built to stop power backs, which admittedly aren't that many.

Elusive backs don't really care how much power tackling you have but are much more dependent on their own SAs firing at the right time.

Power backs fumble much more than elusive backs.

That’s really helpful analysis, but makes it sound like elusive HBs are the safer bet.

Is that fair?

Not really.

Sometimes you need that 3 yards to get a first down, and the elusive HB fails because his SA didn't fire. A power back would've probably gotten you that three yards.

Elusive HBs tend to be more home run types. They often pair their elusiveness with 90+ sprinting. Make a couple of guys miss and its off to the races. But sometimes their SAs don't fire, and they get stuffed.

Power backs are often more feared because if your defense isn't prepared they often get mauled. I'd say power backs are harder to get wrong.

If you have a super star you can't go wrong with a power back. A lot of teams/players in the game skimp on the tackling skills on defense and a Super Star power back will crush those guys for 4 quarters easily.

One thing to remember is that it takes more seasons to make a power back really dominate. It's not until the J-man/Pro tiers that the power back really takes off.

power backs can be dominate starting at their sophomore season if built correctly

Biggest problem I have with elusive backs are they get spooked in short yardage and go horizontal rather through the hole. Powerbacks for me always had fumble issues, even with 90+ in carry grip.

That’s super helpful, thanks all.

So if you’re building a power back, what SAs would you advise?

Same question for elusive backs.
