Just spitballing here but from what's been posted so far it would seem that the desired speed on an O-lineman depends on position and offensive style of team. A team that passes a lot needs LESS speed on the O-line to keep from having those issues Bluesman points out above^^^. But a team that runs a lot would want MORE speed on the O-line for pulling and down field blocking. Have I got that about right?

Pass Block Tackles imo less speed . Too much speed invites the Rusher closer to the QB and brings the pressure bad pass come into play

The very first thing in both pass and run blocking is "guys collide".

I vaguely recall Bort saying something about momentum or something, where moving faster generates more force.

Way back before the morale suck, 1st Step was always the way to go if you built in good speed. You'd be moving fast and get a good collision right off the snap. One without the other isn't nearly as helpful.

1st Step on OTs used to suck, because they'd jump out of the way and give the DEs a straight shot. Not sure if that's changed with the evolution of DE builds. I suppose it's all relative to the amount of Speed and Agility in the build too.
