This poor little CPU-owned sophmore team had to face a journeyman team on ladder a couple days ago - so who did they get to play the very next ladder match?

a Pro team.

Seriously, I get that you can't make it match up perfectly, but jumping 2 levels is stupid, and having a team from near the bottom of the sophmore rankings be the chosen whipping boy is just ridiculous. You can have it single out teams before the matching begins, and make it not a team from the bottom of the lower bracket to face off against a top team from a higher bracket.

I'm sure the team in the higher brackets doesn't want to barely register a bump in their rank from bashing on a team 2 tiers down from them.

They should delete one of the middle tiers altogether.

Well, for starters, that is a journeyman CPU team, so playing another journeyman CPU team doesn't seem too unreasonable.

Secondly, it's not like they are playing the creme of the crop professional team. It's another CPU team that has lost most of their games with one human player on it...I doubt they are going to care too much about their "bump" in rank.

All of this is exacerbated by the matchmaker trying to make sure humans play against humans and then figuring out CPU afterwards. Which CPU matchmaking will inherently be more volatile, but we didn't program the CPU to care.

None of this, however, is to say the matchmaker is perfect. It can be a bit rough around the edges where it just *needs* to make a game, even if their's no good options and it has to pull crosstier. The fewer teams there are, the more prominent those edges become. With one league in a tier, the entire thing is a hard edge.

Any thoughts to removing a tier?
