I don't use the quarter alignment very often...in fact, I don't think I've ever used it. My question is this, if I assign one of the CBs that appear on the strong side of the formation in the Play Builder to a WR on the weak side and set to cover man, will the CB line up on the weak side or am I gonna find him trying to run from one side of the field to the other when executed?

Quarter looks like a specialty alignment for use primarily against 5-wide. That's what has me concerned, that I could set CB4 or CB5 to cover either WR1 or WR3 and find that he's lined up on the strong side past the TE.

If I recall correctly, setting the defender to "Man" means he'll line up across from the player he's assigned to cover, while setting the defender to "Man w/out Move" means he'll start from wherever you place him and move to cover the player he's assigned to cover once the play starts.

However, it's been a while since I did anything on the defensive side of the ball, so I could be wrong.

Easiest way to find out is to draw up some defensive plays to test it, and then use those plays in an insta-scrimmage and watch what happens.

Yes. Do NOT select Man w/out move unless you have a very specific reason as the dot will remain in it's assigned position even if the dot it's covering is all the way across the field (such as in Trips formations). Selecting "Man" means the dot will start across from the dot it's assigned to.

There's really no reason not to use the Quarter defense against pass plays.

Almost every top defense uses a 3-man rush and drops 8 into coverage.

The thing is the cLB archetype is perfect for coverage. All of the right attributes are in the build, it's just a matter of shitty SAs.

The object of the game, is to match the offensive personnel with corresponding defensive personnel. If there's a 260 pound pHB and a 250 bFB on the field, you shouldn't match that with extra coverage built DBs. If there's 180 pound scat backs on the field, you might as well use coverage DBs.

Like everyone else said above, just be careful how you use your "cover man" and "cover man without move" settings.

That bit definitely needs bolding and underlining!
