If you put in a Defensive Player- for example a CB as KR or PR what is their carrying grip? Seems to me that should be an investable skill along with elusive, or power running. Those could activate on special team returns, interception returns, fumble returns.

Yeah that's the problem with putting a defensive player as a returner. Since it's not a skill that is listed, it is going to be really low. The 2nd part of your question is more of a suggestion and yes it makes sense.
