From a purely mathematical perspective the "higher cost" equipment you are referring to already has 2 (or more?) attributes attached to it, and thus is exactly twice (or thrice?) as likely to have unfavorable attributes.

It is entirely possible that the roll for each individual piece favors being a less expensive piece, but in no way does this indicate it is any more likely that your initial conclusion has any merit.

Needs more statistical backing?

Hate to admit this but my 'Coding' began and ended with Basic back in the days of green screens, Apples, and Commodore64's... so you could be 100% spot on and I couldn't tell you so. My assumption is based on human knowledge that we're all basically lazy when it comes to work and if there's an easier way, it's generally the way it gets done. Not sure of how GLB/Bort did it but I simply suspected something simple such as a 'Refresh' reloads the page... however many AEQ pieces are on it, I figured there's likely a % of quality to appear... (like 55% chance for cheap pieces, 35% medium value pieces, and 10% top quality pieces)... and the individual pieces just being a random selection of what makes up that value... which is why you get crazy pieces like a 5% Hold Block with +3 speed for your EHB.
Again...I couldn't tell you how GLB and Bort did it and, again, you could be exactly spot on. I've been taking notes for several seasons on my shopping experiences and have noticed a few simple things... but haven't doped out a serious pattern I could really hammer home with stats. %'s, yeah.... but nothing like being able to tell you exactly WHEN to shop is best or how many refreshes before throwing in the towel. I can generalize based on logic and math... but not give exacts. And it also depends on the Archetype of the dot as well. I can definitely say that certain dots are way more easy to shop for than others (example DT vs RQB). Perhaps there's some sort of limiting program that makes sure you don't get a 5% Pass Quality piece when shopping for a CB? Again... dunno. The Guide I'm working on (still) is hopefully gonna make it easier to figure out the what and the when.... I have no delusions I'll ever reckon the 'how'.

It doesn't, its just a basic mathematical concept being applied.

A piece of equipment that has only 1 of 2 potential "attributes" is going to be more likely to be your ideal piece.

This is undeniable fact.

Well, you need to consider how many AEQ you will be getting.
It takes 300 BT total to upgrade each AEQ to max, plus you need to take into account
how many BT it will cost to get that piece with preferably a +3 modifier) through either
rolling in the shop or buying it outright. I see you have some AEQ already-
you also should add up how many more BT to fully upgrade those (300 minus what you've
already put into upgrading it) then figure out how many more AEQs you will want to get,
for each of those add 300 BT plus at least 80 estimate the purchase cost (probably more)
and then you will know about how many BTs you need total to get your AEQs.

You should be able to get 3 easy. I like 4 but this takes a lot of advance planning to have enough BTs.
At a certain point you will probably need to switch to light training to get enough BTs. Do all the multi-train
you can before you switch. To figure out how many more BT you can get, each season has 57 days of training,
if i'm not mistaken, counting off-season, pres-season, play-offs and the gap day. Once you hit day 280
you will get the 8 preseason days of that season as well, until you hit age 281. Plus you will get one extra train
and 2 extra BT for 100 extra XP at plateau if you time your boosts correctly. Each day of training will get
3 BTs when you are multi training, and 6 obviously when you swith to light training. Use those numbers
to determine how long you can multi-train until you have to switch to light to have enough BTs,
and plan accordingly. Good luck!

I have seen benefits to this as well. For one, the earlier you know exactly what you're getting
the better you can plan long term, so IMO its an advantage to have AEQ in place as early as possible.
Also, there a big risk reward curve as you go on. You can get lucky and get a great piece cheap,
but on the other hand you could roll forever and nothing matches up.

With my C for example, I kinda regret not rolling all the pieces early- it was easy then to find
Pancake and +5% hold block with no attribute mod. I got one of each and a Line General piece
for cheap and just had to add the +3 strength mod to each for 50 BT. Then I waited to buy the 4th piece,
and wasted a bunch of rolls before i ended up just finding another unmodified +5% HB anyhow. It seems
I might have saved a few BT had I just bought them all early. Different positions it might be easier than others.

However, what really cost me was just hitting a damn button wrong, and the store bailed me out some.
When upgrading the unmodified pancake i accidentally hit speed instead of strength. Always make sure
above all else to hit the right button! At that point my next roll in the store netted a +2 strength pancake
for cheap so i settled on that, but that one stupid mistake cost me a point of Strength and like 5 multi-trains.
Luckily i rolled the piece I did then or it would have been way worse.

So I can see the argument that you can get a great piece for cheap if you wait. On the other hand,
you're likely to roll a bunch of crap to get there. Personally, If i could find the right +5% pieces right away
I'd snap that up, add the modifier for 50 BT and not look back. I'm leaning towards the buy early if possible side.
