Okay, let's stare into the gaping maw of the singularity and see if I can remain sane.

Deep breaths...

RANKINGS AFTER GAME 3

#01 Hawaiian Kings
Okay, so far so good. This result makes sense. The Jazz Cats are good, but the Kings are better, and beating them 45-3 to remain atop the Prep tier is perfectly logical. They'll also probably beat my Palookas in Game 4, but it's okay, I'm at peace with that inevitability. Some things are just destined to happen, y'know? And you don't have to like them, but you can still accept them and move on, because they fit seamlessly into the weft and warp of the universe, like accepting that bee stings hurt, or that you will be sad when a loved one dies. It makes sense. It just makes sense.

#02 Jersey Mets
WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. HOW THE FUCK DOES THE SAME TEAM HANG WITH THE BEST SQUAD IN THE LEAGUE FOR 3 QUARTERS AND THEN ONLY BEAT THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE 6-0????????????????/????!? WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT, SERIOUSLY? AND YET SOMEHOW THIS IS STILL THE SECOND-BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE, BECAUSE THEY'VE GIVEN THE KINGS THE ONLY THING REMOTELY RESEMBLING A CHALLENGE SO FAR?!?!? SERIOUSLY, WHERE DO I RANK THESE GUYS? SHOULD I START MAKING UP NUMBERS? SHOULD I TRY DIVIDING BY ZERO? BECAUSE *THAT* RESULT WOULD SOMEHOW MAKE MORE SENSE THAN THESE TEAM ONLY BEATING 4TH STREET 6-0. AND NEXT THEY'LL PROBABLY BEAT THE JAZZ CATS BY A SCORE OF 76-63 OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE WHY NOT. SHIT.

#03 New Orleans Jazz Cats
Got crushed by the Kings 49-3 and pretty much had no answers. The Kings ran the ball at will and only attempted 3 passes, while the Cats only got 101 yards on offense and averaged less than 2 yards per play. And yet they still look better than everyone else except for Jersey, so here they are at #3. The Jersey Mets are next, but Jersey has looked like the more complete team so far EXCEPT FOR THAT FUCKING 4TH STREET GAME SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK.

#04 Palm Bay Palookas
Took care of business against the overmatched Huntsville Rockets. But now the Kings come a-callin' with a defense that has given up less than 400 yards in 3 games and only 24 points in that stretch. Can the all-rushing offense of Palm Bay crack the code? This is my team, but I'm not very confident about this one.

#05 ECE Respawn
Adriatic has shown in the past that they can be a thorn in the side of top teams, so ECE brought weed killer to this game, and it worked. ECE's offense picked up 442 yards of offense on the ground alone, and their defense held Adriatic to NEGATIVE 44 yards of rushing and notched a mind-numbing 21 sacks on Adriatic's QBs. This was a statement game, and ECE is suddenly looking like the favorite to win their Conference. But Game 4 with Monmouth could be ECE's toughest test so far.

#06 Hood Rich Dotballers
Hood didn't particularly impress me in Season 69, and their sleepy win over Adriatic didn't do much to change my perception of them, but their 28-14 win over Monmouth is making me take another look at Hood. But Hood still has limitations... their offense raced out to a 20 point lead, but then did nothing for over a quarter-and-a-half and allowed Monmouth to claw their way back into the game. But Hood's defense also has yet to allow anyone to cross the 200-yard mark on them in a game, and the anemic offense of All-American probably won't be able to change that in Game 4.

#07 Monmouth Evil Monkeys
Monmouth's defense is still good enough to make any game winnable, but their offensive issues finally cost them a game as they fell to Hood 28-14. Monmouth only got 183 total yards on offense and just 1 TD, with their other score coming from special teams. Game 4 against ECE just got a lot more important for Monmouth, but while their defense will probably keep ECE within reach once again, I don't think Monmouth's offense will be able to seal the deal.

#08 All-American Crimson Lancers
Defeated CPUbu Jary in a meaningless game for their first win, but now the Lancers' struggling offense will get a test from the suddenly-surging Hood Rich Dotballers.

#09 Adriatic Sea Wasps
Adriatic is not having a good season, falling by 70 to ECE in their latest game to fall to 0-3. They even surrendered 21 sacks to ECE, and they have yet to top the 300-yard mark on offense. Ubu Jary is up next and will provide Adriatic with a much-needed first win, but it's starting to look like Adriatic has taken a step back from last season... and Adriatic didn't look particularly strong last season either.

#10 Montlake Huskies
Notched an easy win over a CPU team in Prep League #3, and Montlake really won't have a competitive opponent again until the LA Halos in Game 5, and even that's a stretch. We'll really have to wait until the Prep Tourney starts to get a better idea of where Montlake fits in the bigger picture.

#11 Paris Smexies
Notched an easy win over a CPU team in Prep League #3, and won't have a competitive game until Round 2 of the Prep Tourney, though we'll also have another data-point for comparison once Montlake faces LA in Game 5.

#12 Jersey HighRollers
Survived a shoot-out with the stat-whoring College Station Aggies, though their defensive performance left a lot to be desired..

#13 Sydney Sharks
Got an easy win over an outmatched Prep League #2 opponent, but at least we'll learn a bit more about Sydney on 11/23 as they take on ECE in the Prep Tourney.

#14 Huntsville Rockets
Crashed and burned against Palm Bay, losing 94-0, and they're running out of chances to make themselves relevant for this season. They should be able to handle 4th Street in Game 4, but we all saw what 4th Street just did in Game 3, so...

RANKINGS AFTER GAME 5 AND TOURNEY ROUND 1

#01 Hawaiian Kings
Previous rank: #01
Recent results: def. Palm Bay 49-21, def. Huntsville 89-14, def. Plainview 182-14 in Tourney

#1 until somebody does something about it. That probably won't be Monmouth in Game 6. ECE thinks it'll be them, and they'll get their chance in the Tourney Round of 8 on 12/1.

#02 New Orleans Jazz Cats
Previous rank: #03
Recent results: def. Jersey Mets 34-7, def. 4th Street 16-0, lost to All-American 31-14 in Tourney

The Cats turned my head with a stunning rout of Jersey, though that game may have to come with an asterisk. (See below.) They then followed that up with an equally-stunning upset loss to All-American in the Tourney and an uninspiring close win over 4th Street in which they failed to even top 250 yards of offense. But while that's a bad look, who else is better than the Jazz Cats at this point other than Hawaii? It's like Winston Churchill's quote: "Democracy is the worst possible system of government... except for all the others." My vote's for New Orleans. And Game 6 with CPUbu Jary will be a cakewalk.

#03 Palm Bay Palookas
Previous rank: #04
Recent results: lost to Hawaii 49-21, def. Jersey Mets 42-14, def. Adriatic 49-20 in Tourney

Lost to Hawaii by 4 TDs, but did manage to achieve two milestones in the loss: Palm Bay was both the first team to hold Hawaii below 400 yards of offense this season and the first team to gain more than 300 yards of offense on Hawaii this season. I guess that's... something? They then blew the Mets out of the water, though again, that win may have to come with an asterisk. (See below.) Up next: the upstart ECE Respawn in Game #6, and the pesky Montlake Huskies in the Tourney Round of 8.

#04 ECE Respawn
Previous rank: #05
Recent results: def. Monmouth 14-3, def. Hood 22-10, def. Sydney 70-0 in Tourney

I was tempted to put ECE above Palm Bay, but the Western Conference in League #1 is looking less-impressive each game, and their league last season was simply weak-sauce, so ECE simply hasn't had a good chance to show me how truly good they are. But ECE continues to take care of business and is beating the teams they're supposed to beat, and that does mean something to me. Up next: their chance to show me how good they truly are as they face Palm Bay in Game 6, who ECE did defeat in the pre-season, but man, we talkin' about pre-season.

#05 Jersey Mets
Previous rank: #02
Recent results: lost to New Orleans 34-7, lost to Palm Bay 42-14, advanced on a bye in the Tourney

After crashing the Rockets and giving Hawaii an almost-competitive game, the Mets have driven off a cliff, particularly on offense. But the Mets were just too damn good last season and looked too damn good in their first two games of this season, and the Mets have already joked in the league forum that they might be sandbagging. I smell a rat. Still, it's hard to justify keeping Jersey ranked higher based on "Well, I think they could be playing better than they actually are." The Mets take on the Crimson Lancers next in Game 6 and then again 3 days later in the Tourney Round of 8, so it will be interesting to see how Jersey does in the mid-season cross-conference game that doesn't matter as much versus the game that could knock them out of the Tourney.

#06 Monmouth Evil Monkeys
Previous rank: #07
Recent results: lost to ECE 14-3, def. CPUbu Jary 217-0, is not enrolled in the Tourney

I could probably sum up both Monmouth and Hood the same way: stout defense, inconsistent offense. In games against common opponents, Monmouth has looked better than Hood in every game except Adriatic (where both teams looked about the same against Adriatic), yet when Monmouth and Hood met head-to-head, Monmouth lost 28-14. Still, my gut tells me Monmouth is just a hair better than Hood overall, and Monmouth has looked competitive in every game they've played, unlike Hood. But Hawaii in Game 6 will be Monmouth's toughest test yet, and I don't think they'll pass that test.

#07 Hood Rich Dotballers
Previous rank: #06
Recent results: lost to All-American 40-7, lost to ECE 22-10, lost to Huntsville 49-36 in Tourney

I assumed Hood would easily handle All-American. Instead the Lancers absolutely be-clowned Hood, and they have yet to recover, dropping a Tourney game to the decidedly-outmatched Huntsville Rockets and falling to ECE. Hood's defense still looks strong overall, but they're just a hair less consistent than Monmouth despite beating them head-to-head. 4th Street is next in Game 6, and Hood has them outleveled, but they had All-American outleveled too and lost anyway.

#08 All-American Crimson Lancers
Previous rank: #08
Recent results: def. Hood 40-7, lost to Adriatic 13-3, def. New Orleans 31-14 in Tourney

Yes, All-American lost to Adriatic by 10, but much like my selection of Monmouth over Hood, All-American has looked more consistent and has accomplished more than Adriatic overall. All-American lost to ECE by 7, but Adriatic lost to ECE by 70. All-American stomped Hood by 33, but Adriatic lost by 11. And it's hard for me to imagine Adriatic pulling off a Tourney win like the Lancers' 17-point upset of New Orleans. The Jersey Mets are next in Game 6, but it's hard to know how meaningful that game will be.

#09 Adriatic Sea Wasps
Previous rank: #09
Recent results: def. CPUbu Jary 175-0, def. All-American 13-3, lost to Palm Bay 49-20 in Tourney

Adriatic's calling card last season was scrapping out close games against far-superior opponents but losing in the end. That M.O. has abandoned Adriatic this year, and not in a good way. And while they showed some life in a spirited 13-3 win over the Lancers, their other losses have not shown me that Adriatic has made much progress from last season. Huntsville in Game 6 is winnable for Adriatic, but the Rockets are not an automatic win by any means.

#10 Montlake Huskies
Previous rank: #10
Recent results: two wins over non-competitive teams, advanced on a bye in the Tourney

Continues to notch easy wins over CPU teams in Prep League #3, but Montlake really won't have a competitive opponent again until Montlake's Tourney game against Palm Bay on 12/1, which should give us a better idea of where Montlake fits in the bigger picture.

#11 Paris Smexies
Previous rank: #11
Recent results: two wins over non-competitive teams, advanced on a bye in the Tourney

Continues to notch easy wins over CPU teams in Prep League #3, and won't have a competitive game until they face Huntsville in the Tourney on 12/1.

#12 Huntsville Rockets
Previous rank: #14
Recent results: def. 4th Street 45-0, lost to Hawaii 89-14, def. Hood 49-36 in the Tourney

It may be time to start taking Huntsville more seriously after their upset win over Hood in the Tourney. Adriatic is next in Game 6, and hey, Huntsville beat Hood, so Adriatic may not be out of reach.

#13 Jersey HighRollers
Previous rank: #12
Recent results: two wins over non-competitive teams, is not enrolled in the Tourney

Jersey won't have another competitive game in League #2 until Game 15 against Sydney, and given how Sydney bombed out of the Tourney, Jersey's 10-point win over Sydney in Game 1 is thoroughly unimpressive.

#14 Sydney Sharks
Previous rank: #13
Recent results: two wins over non-competitive teams, lost to ECE 70-0 in the Tourney

Welp. Sydney has only had two real games so far this season, and they lost them both. They'll get a chance to do something about it in their Game 15 rematch with the HighRollers, but that might be too little too late.
