Nothing wrong with GE's defense. Would be hard to replicate though.
Balanced offense with a speed/power HB, they are still the meta.

Yeah, we are beyond the point where you can point and laugh at GE's defense. It's excellent, it forces tons of turnovers and coupled with an equally strong offense would easily be good enough to grab the #1 ladder spot.

While everyone was laughing at GE's defense he was fine tuning it. That is why it would be so hard to replicate. I can't see him finishing #1 but it's definitely possible.

We are #2 right now, so I can see us ending at #1.
My defense hasn't changed much at all over the last 10 seasons. It made a big jump when:
1. Eye on the Prize got buffed
2. INTs got buffed
3. Some of the Zones vs the pass got fixed
4. Quickness was modified to account for acceleration
It isn't that hard to replicate. It is based on power/monster hitting, Eye on the Prize, high Quickness/Footwork on most positions and Intimidating blitzing LBs. Safeties and blitzing LBs are the only positions with high sprinting.
I have never invested any SPs into coverage tech or man coverage...I do have a few man defenses I run vs 3 WR sets.

Though why anyone runs anything other than TRIPS against GE, I’ll never know.

GE goes man quite a bit now in the 3WR set.
