Just a theoretical here: If I build an OT with an emphasis on Technique, at what point is it useful to invest in power? Does power and technique work in tandem with each other, or is it better to max out one or the other first? I have an OT that is really high in tech, about 70, and about 25 in power.

Traditionally people have built with the mindset of 100 run tech and 50ish run power. Or 70ish if you have a superstar. But its tough to say where the perfect mindset is now with the balance and morale changes. Currently I sit at around 90 tech and 50ish power. But I have pass blocking skills as well as balance and intimidation up a decent bit as well.

without high tech, power is not useful. the player needs to be able to successfully lock-up the block before he can use the power to pancake the defender. due to that logic, tech is always more preferable early and at a higher level end game. just keep in mind to not neglect awareness, balance, some footwork, etc. GL

I prefer a 40%-50% of the Tech to be Power.
Ie.
80 Tech = 35-40 Power

I think it depends if you're talking about Run Tech or Pass Tech. My understanding is that you need more power in a run blocker than in a pass blocker. Pass blockers don't need to pancake; they need to just hold the guy up and dance with him. Therefore, it's more important to have higher balance and footwork rather than putting those points into power. My pass blocking OLinemen have never had more than about 25-30 Power and they have always been great (mostly because I like their Balance to be up around 70-75 and that gets expensive).

If you're talking run blocking, then I feel like you need more power, especially on Guards who need to be able to pull and lead block, preferably pancaking guys in the process.

I think power got a boost in popularity when the balance changes hit.

Power in pass blocking helps not get pushed back into the QB and forcing bad throws.

i went with 65-70 run blk power on my current interior o-line and FB. it cost a ton of points and the results were/are underwhelming.

You need to gold Get Low if that is the case.

I have actually seen some real good things from my center on Ice due to using Strong Arm and pass power rather than going the traditional pass SA route of Leverage.
