I was doing a bit of looking and it appears that power back is the way to go. Is elusive back viable? Does anyone have one that is playing well at a high level?

Also a lot of backs are 5'6". Is there a reason why, I am sure there is.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, there are examples of effective pure elusive, pure power and combo RBs in the top 10 HoF ranking from S29 (the most recently concluded season).

tough to say. i had one of the best elusives in the game up until they made the change to balance mid season. i retired him before last nights new changes but i assume they are still viable and good.

I wouldn't say power backs are great anymore with the nerfs. Combo backs might be the best now.

Why are all backs 5'6"? Is there a reason for that? I was looking through this thread:

I see no discussion of height/weight though. I see a lot of 5'6" 220 lb HBs. Anyone have a an idea why?

He has a non superstar player. My suggestion to him was an elusive because I didn't think he could build a quality power or combo HB with the amount of SPs he would have to work with. It would be a really slow power HB which would fumble a lot or a combo that really would poor at both elusive and power.

Better balance and footwork I would think.

Playing around with player builder this looks to be the case. No real advantage to being tall but being short gives a higher balance and footwork cap.

With the new dynamic involving vertical it will be interesting to see if height actually plays a part in the passing game now.

Preface: I am a crazy person, this is my opinion and not fact.

Because of the large shift in balance importance and the improved pursuit of defensive players it has become a lot harder to make an elusive back, and in my opinion if you are going to make one it should be focused on the actual skill of elusive running and balance than on quickness.

I am going to get a LOT of sluff for this, but here goes.

Quickness was good before because it allowed you to abuse bad pathing, footwork is going to be more important in outside running now than quickness is. That's not to say that quickness, being the key stat to hard cuts and acceleration, is not important - extremely far from it - but broken tackles on balance and elusive running are way up, same with missed diving tackles with footwork. Footwork more than ever now helps to make subtle shifts in the angle your HB takes and in combination with rushing awareness helps to 'lead' defenders to blockers a lot more than it used to.

In my opinion, quickness at 80+ is going to be too high in the new meta for an elusive back, because the advantage that quickness had on the outside is basically gone. You can probably get away with leaving it down near 50 if your footwork is high enough to maintain momentum through corners and not need the pure acceleration when losing less speed.

I'm still working out the details because my main HB sat out the first season in the new meta and I wasted a pickup player being brought to full term when I built it to someones specifications for a test then he got bored and invalidated the whole thing effectively wasting my research time for months... but that's another story.

Basically, That's the picture I'm getting so far, my old 'footwork first' and 'high balance' builds that people used to scoff at might become the new meta. I'd not flip over to my side yet, just saying things look good.

My bad with that, after balance got the huge buff I believed it threw off the ratio to increase a higher amount. We needed higher balance cause everyone already had low and balance became more important. I changed with the games change of increased need, but still made reports when I did change.

Yeah I meant with HB’s in particular. Other positions it is different for sure.

partially bad timing, whole thing sucked. :/ If I were really mad about it I would have named ya and shamed ya or something, I understood why you did it, just kinda sucked >.<
