Should anyone not in last seasons top 5-10 even play this season? Sorry people that finally put together a decent team, they don't want you to have a chance.

I don't get what is happening? There is a reset every single season, for every single tier.

Not that it's a really big deal. All you have to do is win and you can make it there. Although, I have to be honest. I'm not 100% sure exactly what you are talking about?

There was no reset this season.

I'm guessing the want to try and help the ladder matchups for teams coming up

But I get your point that the top couple teams may have built a huge gap in ELO that the new Vet teams can't hope to close without some luck. Not just keep winning but keep winning and pulling top end matchups.

No its not that simple. We could have the best season of all the teams in the tier and not mathematically end #1.

What's the ELO?

surely it was an accident or bug caused by something else. No way they do this without announcing it.

ELO is the behind the scenes score any team has earned -- ELO determines the ladder ranking. #1 on the ladder is the team with the highest ELO. Number 10 on the ladder is the team with the 10th highest ELO.

ELO is a rating you earn based on wins / losses and strength of schedule. Strength of schedule is based on the ELO of your opponent at the time you play them.

Normally all vet teams would start with an ELO of 100 (I'm making this number up). As teams wins - their ELO increases (a lot if they beat a team with a high ELO -- a little or very little if they beat a team with a low ELO). As teams lose - their ELO gets lower -- lose to a great team and your ELO only goes down a little -- lose to a terrible team and it goes down a lot.

Think of the College football ranking system - but it uses only math and facts (we don't know the formulas).

So -- if the ELO wasn't reset --- BSB who was #1 last season I think essentially gets a head start on the rest of the field. Likewise a team that finished last season at #20 will potentially have a season where it is mathematically impossible for them to reach #1...even if they go undefeated (note: possible -- depending on where their ELO starts)

Tough to say, Both BM and Cheddar started with the same avg rank. As did all the other tiers. Would think there would be a imbalance if ELo wasn't reset.

Oh wait, lol. The outlaws are still #5 depsite being 0-1, and Whoville is #7. Yep, the ladder is completely fubar.

To clarify Steve's point (numbers below are made up for purposes of an example)...

LAST season -

All Veteran teams started with 1200 marbles
All Pro teams started with 1000 marbles
All Journeyman teams started with 800 marbles
All Seasoned teams started with 600 marbles
All Sophomore teams started with 400 marbles
All Rookie teams started with 200 marbles

As teams played, the winning team took marbles from the losing team each game. Based on marble count, if the winning team was supposed to win by a lot they took only a few marbles. If they won a toss-up game, they took an "average" number of marbles. If they won in a big upset they took many extra marbles. Of course, there are varying degrees of give or take depending on how close the matchup is.

So, by the end of the season, its possible that the distribution looked like this:

Ranks 1-3 :: ~1800 marbles
Ranks 4-6 :: ~1650 marbles
Ranks 7-9 :: ~1400 marbles
...
...
...

So, rather than all the current 1-0 teams being clustered together and all the 0-1 teams clustered, now we're basically the same as last season. Theoretically, Whoville (or any of other recently promoted teams) could lose 3 or 4 less games than the vets of Veteran and still be behind several of them at the end of the season...similar to what you see with the Dynasty rankings.

The journey tier is ranked higher globally than both pro leagues.

Everything is messed up.
