I get the purpose of GLB2 is supposed to be for the more casual user. Keep it simple and allow for competitiveness without hours of prep for every game. There is also some issues with 4th quarter logic that already makes the game frustrating at times. What I would like to see and this goes to some of the logic that should be followed in the fourth quarter, is being able to pick your team's personality and have a fourth quarter strategy that fits the personality.
For example, there isn't any secret to the way my team plays. We want to grind the clock out and limit possessions. That being said, if you were to watch our game today and you were coaching it live, you would have gone for 2 in the 4th quarter to make it a 8 point game and you certainly wouldn't have punted with 4 minutes left needing 2 scores on 4th and inches. Not yards, inches. Of course, we go for 2 when we just scored a couple of possessions earlier and converted, the 4th and inches would have been even that much more important.
Back to the XP. 9 point difference does nothing for us at that point. We are built heavily towards grinding it out and taking our chances with a close score at the end and hoping to end up with ball last. It is already frustrating enough to build a team that is supposed to be grinding it out, takes low risks, and still has to contend with a couple of turnovers a game because the game is set against our style of play.
So developing a personality trait for the team that dictates more of how it performs in certain situations will also clear up some of the problems with poor logic. Going for it near midfield on 4th and inches is not a balls out risky scenario. Especially when you have built a team to grind out 4 yards a carry and you are down 9 points. In fact, I could argue the score never matters and in that scenario, a team like mine would go for it every time given the tendency most of our opponents out there are very explosive offensively.
I do think taking the step towards developing a team personality that dictates a general logic actually keeps to the core function of being a game for the casual user. The alternative would be to add a page of tactics for those specific scenarios which would add a level of complexity to the use. What is going on now is certainly not something working for everyone and is not simple. It takes away from one's ability to build a team to win in a certain way and pushes everyone towards cookie cutter strategies to avoid getting boxed in by the strange logic patterns. I don't want to be a chuck the pigskin kind of guy nor finding plays that score in 72 seconds per drive. I want 9 minute drives that slow the game down so we have a slight chance in the 4th quarter against the high power teams. Having an AI dictate everything on the same level for everyone in the 4th quarter does not account for differing strategies.
