I think that the lack of teams is causing an issue now. Correct me if im wrong but I believe the current rule is teams play another team within 20 ladder ranks of their own ranking. However, with only a handful of J-Man and Pro Teams this is causing an abnormal number of mismatched games between teams two tiers apart. I think ladder games now need to be changed to play teams within 10 or 12 ladder ranks of your own ladder rank, Im pretty sure we would all rather play teams in our own tier multiple times then to have to play a team two tiers ahead of us, which isnt any fun for the higher tier team either.

And while thye are at it, make the #1, 2, 3 and 4 teams in each tier play each other the last 2 weeks.

Even when there were way more leagues you would still see seasoned vs pro matchups. These can get super frustrating for any seasoned team because unless the pro team is terrible they have no shot to compete. This is why seasoned is probably my least favorite tier to play in.

Corndog sees nothing wrong with these matchups:

The reason top seasoned teams get stuck playing higher tier teams is because of the Rookie and Sophomore protection.
Extending that protection further just makes the rankings even more distorted once it ends.

The most frustrating part is when you play a tough upper tier team where others get to play in tier or down tier. One week last season we played a top 5 pro team where the #2 and #3 teams played a terrible Vet team and down a tier team. We never really recovered from that. If everyone got crushed by the same exact up tier teams then it would be balanced at least.

It was less of a problem when there were more teams. It used to really only be the truly elite teams within a tier that would jump multiple tiers and play a quality team that is two tiers higher. There were a decent amount of leagues within each tier in the glory days so the ladder matchup engine had a simpler task finding reasonable opponents for everybody. Rookie teams now seem to start ranked within the top 100 overall and by seasoned, teams will climb in to dangerous territory as far as who they can possibly draw. Unfortunately, I do not see GLB all of a sudden gaining a bunch of teams again as the number of teams fielded each seasons continues to fall.

This is my biggest issue and why I said it has great consequences for ladder rankings.

This is a good argument for combining J-Man & Pro and giving us another season at Vet for it.

The complaint of not enough teams doesn't fit, cause you can always find someone to play. Yes, I understand Pro has 1 League. But VET (1 tier above) has 3 Leagues, (J-Man (1 tier below) has 2 teams. It all comes down to Ladder matchups should NOT extend past 1 Tier.
