Not really. It's more likely for a K to win O MVP than ST. The formula is totally screwed up. Entirely based on return yards, tackles and blocking. Kicks and punts aren't even considered.
I think the solution is to alter the formula to weight point totals a bit more heavily--and a separate, also more heavily weighted part of the formula for FGs and coffin-corners. This would even things out a bit, I think.
But first, kicking logic and power rushing might need adjusted to make FGs more likely/relevant. I do think special teams is drastically overlooked, and this is probably why:
-- Marginal benefit from spending salary on S* HB and a whole O-line of S* run-blockers is just greater than spending the cap-space on it.
-- And the opportunities for negligent kicker/punter builds to be a liability and great kicker/punter builds to stand out are missing because of smaller sample size (short of kick-offs, obviously). Even with the small sample size, though, the other half of it is that kickers just need way too many skills that the SP is usually spread too thin to plan for it with having to spend separately on Kickoff Power--which would be understandable if it wasn't so expensive.
