A few things here I hope some folks can weigh in on for me.

My S* DE will have gold First Step and gold Spin Cycle.

For the final points, I'm thinking one of two different options:

-- Gold Showboat. He'll get tons of sacks, and it'd allow me to skimp a little bit on toughness and heart.
-- Silver Showboat and silver Shed Block. It'd allow him to be more relevant against the run, and the TFLs would also contribute to morale and energy bonuses from Showboat.

Thoughts?

First Step is a bad SA for DE's.

S* DE needs to be on the field for both sides of the ball, otherwises its a waste of salary, especially at such an expensive position as DE.

You need gold spin cycle and Gold shed block with pass rush tech and break run block above 90, otherwise you're better off just having a non S* DE and saving the salary for another position.

After that you can do whatever you've built towards, in my case it will either be silver showboat and silver opportunist, or Gold opportunist. But you can't waste a S* on a situational player, it's simply too expensive and not really practical considering what a balanced S* can achieve.

For S* defenders I definitely prefer for them to excel in both the run and pass if at all possible. With that said having shed block on any S* DLineman is pretty much a must no matter what for me. Should not be too hard cooking up a S* DE build that can do both. As for the heart and toughness it is probably going to depend on what the other skills are. I would probably suggest making shed block gold though with 40-50 toughness and 30-40 heart. You can probably get away with less on both though.

I've had really, really nice success with it when my DE has decent Quickness and higher-end Sprinting (60+). It often seems like the difference between a hurry and a sack--especially if less speed is lost from the Spin with high Footwork.

Humor me for a moment, and suppose the trade-off was worth it for my build. You mentioned silver Showboat and silver Opportunist, but would the two I listed--Showboat and Shed Block--be as good?

I'm less familiar with the success of Opportunist. It just seems like the same number of points seem to produce better results just going in Power Tackling--both in creating more TFLs (since backs less likely to cross scrimmage) and for producing fumbles, especially out of the QB.

With 40 strip tech my De's are averaging 12-20% FF per tackle attempt so far, I did quite a bit of experimeting on LB's, CB's and DE's to see the effectiveness of strip tech in forcing fumbles and it seems to force fumbles at a higher rate per attempt than power tackling does with the same investment. They'll both have 70 strip tech by season end along with 75+ tackle tech, so they should do fine against power HB's, an I'm counting on them being dragged and getting multiple attempts to initiate a strip fumble. Plus they won't be moving at full speed typically when they initiate a tackle against HB's, so the value of power tackling will be less for the De's than for a safety. And I'm exclusively doing it to chase fumbles, the point of opportunist is to have the strip tech rolls be at least 50% of max, I'm assuming 50% is enough to overcome any QB's 20-30 drop back grip on most all tackle attempts with 10+ strip tech that should put the DE's at 83 strip tech for the sack.

Shed Block is a must, no matter what you need to gold it. Your S*DE is going to be on the field 90%+ of the time, so you need to be just as capable at stopping the run as you are at stopping the pass. There's nothing worse than having a S* DE on your roster who can't stop the run. The question isn't how good is shed block. The question is, after you take shed block to gold what should you do with your last 3 Ability Points.

Consider your DE had 6 tackles last season, and 11 tackles the season before. It means your DE is completely taken out of the play when the offense rushes the ball. It's a huge waste of salary, and you aren't going to see much of an increase in pass rushing over a balanced S* DE, You want to pump Break Run Block to at least 80, and get shed block just so you can contribute against the rush as well.

Showboat is fine, but not as replacement for toughness and Heart. You want to have 30-40 Heart and 50-60 toughness. Showboat is more of a hit against the offense, than it is a boost for the Defense. It won't make up for any lack of heart, toughness, or conditioning on your own player.

I wouldn't waste SP on strip tech, nor AP on opportunist tbqh.

Gold Spin Cycle, Showboat, Shed Block is the way too go. To get FFs you need a combo of speed/power. http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/184441

You want sacks you want to get gold spin cycle at least 80 idealy 90 in prt then foot work. And you will get the sacks. On my pass rush first dt it projects to have 100 prt and 95 footwork with gold spincycle
