I'm trying to build a mostly pass-focused OT and he's getting pushed out of the way for a lot of sacks. Is that driven by a lack of pass blocking power? The description reads as though you would be the one doing the pushing.

Plays like this (LOT):

Would need to see the build to have an idea what needs to be fixed, but I'd bet balance is low offhand.

Build is closed, but as a rookie you either need more pass block technique, or balance.

Typically you only get knocked over when you lose the blocking interaction. Technique is what determines whether you win or lose, while power determines how much worse it will be for you when you lose, or how much worse it will be for the person you're blocking when you win.

That's not getting knocked over is it? I have 34 tech and 22 balance. So with higher power he would still get pushed away just not by as much?

34 tech at this point in rookie is decent but 22 balance is low. Tech, balance, footwork and conditioning are what I focus on in rookie on the line. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying to skip awareness or power at all, but those above categories are important to work with early SPs in my opinion.

Footwork plays a huge role in side to side movements for a pass blocker. Raise it to 25-30 and see if that gives better results.

Ok thanks I'll pump balance a little and see if that helps.

Looks like technique to me. Your player wasn't pushed backwards it was just the defender winning the technique battle and shedding the block.

Yep, also note the DE was a S* DE, probably has nearly 50 pass rush technique. That DE is going to win a few battles every game when pass rushing no matter who he's facing.

Not hard to get PRT into the high 60s on rookie DL. Keep that in mind when figuring out how much PBT you need.

This.

The people saying balance and footwork are, in my opinion, not correct.

My advice was towards building the player not winning that one contest. I understand that wasn't the literal question, but answering just tech won't end up with a good OT even if that is the most important skill. Help a new agent with a few players scattered on random teams get a feel for fully building out the player, I doubt he's getting build guides on the squads.

I knew even when the build was closed what it would look like. An unboosted rookie about 5 games in at the time with 34 Tech, there was no way he had points in some needed places. He could pump tech and sure maybe he wins that 1 contest, once a game.

Build is now open and sure enough he's low in some key building block locations (cond 15). So my thought still stands for a rookie OT, focus tech-cond-balance-footwork for now.

That's still wrong, in my opinion. SACKS is in Seasoned - and all the OTs have about 20 - 25 footwork and balance (ideally I do want to get them up a little higher - probably will this season). The reality is tech is way more important than anything.
