Wanted to re-visit a look at Counters now that we are 20% of the way into the season. Just picking a few games here and there - but trying to make sure I pick competitive games.

DA vs Freakville this morning:
DA: 17 Trip Counters for 8.1 ypc (against qtr 2 man press mostly)
DA: 2 Big I Counters for 15.5 per (against 4-3 man DE flats)

Freakville: 11 Trips Counters for 8.3ypc (against 326 man and nick c1 TE smother)
(freakville was hit and miss on other counters with BI shut down but WI weak being good)

---------------
DA vs Madison
DA: 19 trip counters for 6.9 ypc (against 34C1 RILB Fire)
---------------

DD vs Hostile
DD: 12 Trip Counters for 7.9 (against 34 sting pinch)

DD vs BSB
DD: 4 for 3.8 (BSB sold out to stop it I assume? with Cat Blitz 2 strong)

------------

Using the Play Analyzer (imperfect I know because of bad competition, etc).

Rookie: 7.77 ypc on 1397 tries (looks like zone plays / C3 Tiger / etc are best)
Soph: 8.63 ypc on 599 tries
Seas: 9.78 ypc on 557 times
Jour: 9.13 ypc on 947
Pro: 14 ypc on 404
Vet: 12.48 ypc on 845

To put that into some (also imperfect perspective)

TE Crosses - 2013 data
rookie: 7843 times for 5.23 ypa / 10.46 ypc
soph: 5039 5.65 / 10.36
Seas: 2654 / 5.89 / 10.54
Jour: 2832 / 5.97 / 10.56
Pro: 883 / 6.6 / 10.48
Vet: 4210 / 5.48 / 10.59

SB TE Post
rookie: 8425 / 5.11 / 10.61
soph: 6064 / 6.32 / 11.18
Seas: 4556 / 6.15 / 11.33
Jour: 4181 / 6.64 / 12.02
Pro: 2226 / 6.61 / 11.31
Vet: 6943 / 6.48 / 11.46

It does suck that everyone has to run them to win, at least it seems that way.

Not gonna change mid-season - just play it through and re-evaluate at season's end...

The play analyzer doesn't even have S14 stats in there, so you are pulling those from last season Steve.

DA was spamming counters end of last season and it won them the Hydrogen ship. Pretty OP at the moment.

Yes - sorry - you are right. I knew that...and thought I mentioned it - but obviously didn't.

Since nothing changed in the running game though - not sure how important that is

Spread formation has no counters in it. HAHA's offense is in the gutter this season.

However, my Sophomore team is really enjoying them. Counters all the way!

sophomore HBs are going to beat Jimbos record for most yards by a HB in a season at this rate (only 6 games in though)

3-4C1 RILB Fire would be the perfect play to stopping that trip counter and also working well against the pass if guys in pursuit didn't sometimes get caught behind other blocks... when they don't, it gets blown up early. Against the pass, it's similar to the 3-3 over will mike blitz 1, which is everyone favorite blitzing play against 3 WR right now.

If anyone has found some more consistent plays that stop counters out of any formation, please share. Counters are more OP than back in Queeen Citys dominant days, and it's a bit infuriating.

Jimbo split carries whereas 2 or 3 of these Sophomore teams only have 1 RB. But they also pass a little...so...tomato tomahtoe?

But you also need a FS (or is it the ROLB/RILB) to be good in single coverage against WR3...so...not really possible without a S*.

yeah i know that! just saying it hasnt been like this before and theres been 1 HB teams so im attributing it to counters. If jimbo had been forced the ball more he probably could have got over 20k

I think its more on teams not having a good run defense anymore. There are a couple plays where the ss or a lb can get through to bust the trips counter but most just miss the tackle.
