I think it is great that management is planning some changes to actually be implemented fairly soon (supposedly).

if I recall:
- new game mode
- new tutorial
- new ways to keep up and get flex give aways, etc (facebook/etc)

That is all very cool and I'm glad it is coming.

I think the game would be well served though if Bort and/or Corndog (probably Bort) were able/willing to give us some more info about the future of GLB2 -- what future plans do they have in mind? What could be the goal for next season? Will there be more new plays on the horizon -- stuff like that.

Why do I think that?

Glad you asked. It would appear that you are making some changes that will give us a better chance of retaining new players - and hopefully turning people who visit once into people who are active members of the community.

One road block to that right now is that the forum posting community seems to be pretty annoyed and bitter. To mention just a few - we are annoyed with chemistry -- we are annoyed that you haven't dealt with all of the spam plays -- we are annoyed that you haven't dealt with counters -- we are annoyed because we feel abandoned by management and unappreciated and like you're just milking us for every dollar you can get as the ship sinks here.

This isn't a good environment for improving player retention.

So - might I suggest / beg: Throw us some bones. What kind of future plans are there? What is your vision? The community as a whole is also going to play a HUGE role in retention rates...so give us some reasons to stay on your side. We love the game...but we are losing our faith that you still care about it.

My vision? You're playing it right now. The release of GLB2 was in a FAR more finished state than GLB1. We spent about 4-5 times as long working on GLB2 before we released it than we did GLB1, and therefore it is pretty much feature-complete based on our original design plan. Our goal now is to adapt and take things as they come, making updates as we think they are needed.

We don't have a grand plan to turn this game into a 3D Madden competitor on your PS4 or vastly overhaul everything into something totally new. If we did, it would end up in a new game because it's far faster and easier to build things from scratch using a cohesive design document, without a community to worry about working around interfering with. Obviously, we're going to come up with bigger stuff here and there to add on, such as the things I'm working on now, but I doubt the game design a year from now is going to be vastly different from now.

We make updates we feel are needed every offseason, the servers are running and any issues that come up with them get fixed, support messages get answered, and CDog or DD chat with you all in the forum...I'm not sure how that would qualify as "being abandoned." Yeah, maybe I dont' come and chat very often, but I'm busy with all kinds of stuff these days and that's why I delegate to other folks. I'm just a guy...I'm not some sort of special god that knows a million times more than them. You can talk to them and take what they say at face value. We have weekly meetings to discuss whatever is going on, so I always hear about and weigh in on whatever you guys are chatting about, and that informs future decisions on updates.

Also, remember, just because your pet project updates don't get implemented doesn't mean we didn't take a look at them or discuss them. It just means we didn't think they needed updates, we wanted to gather more data or ponder a bit, or we like they way things work right now. Also, some things can't really be fixed mid-season. We do listen and discuss your feedback, but just because a few people say (very loudly) they don't like X item, it doesn't mean we're going to change it instantly.

TL;DR: our plan right now is to take feedback and look at the data available, analyze and discuss it, and do what we think is right, on an as-needed basis.

Thanks for the response Bort. I appreciate it (lowest response to a Bort post ever in this thread??).

It is comforting to know that suggestion and bug posts are still discussed by you guys. It is comforting that some of your thought life is still spent on this game.
