I'm still a bit confused by this one since coming over from GLB1. Can someone explain quickness in the GLB2 sim and how it is different from footwork. Of course there is a description, but it seems unintuitive to me since agility was a catch-all in GLB1.

Also, does quickness also serve to improve acceleration like agility did in GLB1?

Great questions!

The answer: No one fully knows what the Sim in GLB2 takes into account. So anything here is going to be based on educated guesses.

There is some debate about whether quickness affects acceleration. My personal opinion based on watching games and looking at combine times is that it does improve acceleration in forward movement as well as decrease the time spent to change directions. It also powers First Step, which is a really important special ability at a lot of positions (and which definitely improves acceleration).

Footwork seems to be the speed at which a player can backpedal/sidestep. My personal opinion is it has nothing to do with forward movement. It also helps fire Spin Cycle a very important special ability for pass rushers (some balanced D-Linemen take it as well), which has led a lot of people to conclude that on the line it can help with swim and other moves in order to get around O-Linemen.

Couldn've have asked for a better nor more timely response! Thank you! That seems like the conclusion I've come to, but I'm still unsure which positions might need footwork outside of D-line and CBs. Do RBs and WRs need high footwork? What about O-line?

If anyone else has anything to add, I'd like to hear some more thoughts!

RBs need some footwork to get outside quickly on pitches and sweeps. I've never really built up my WRs footwork because I run a lot of streak routes but if your WRs are making a lot of cuts then I would say 40-50 max footwork would be good because there are so many other skills a WR benefits from. Route tech/elusiveness play a big role in route running also.

Foot work on WRs is needed if you want to get a lot of YAC from a Speed WR. It seems to help after the catch and turning upfield - because a lot of WRs turn their bodies to the QB to catch the pass (too many in IMHO but another topic).

I'd imagine it helps on Screen WRs too.

WRs don't need any investment in Footwork however. It depends on what type of Pass offense you want to build.

my opinions:

footwork - purely backpedalling and side stepping. HB's don't need it. Mostly only secondary players need it imo (other than a little on the O line).

quickness - only affects turning - not acceleration.

I think on Pwr Backs its not needed as much, but on a speed back I'd think it'd help with Juke or Spins IMO.

I'm on the fence about Quickness atm.

sim has obviously changed a lot -- but I seriously doubt anything has been done to footwork or quickness.

jimbo jumpback had 20 footwork and 37 quickness (and I wish I hadn't wasted any skill points there...)

In WR routes where the WR actually comes back to the QB footwork helps immensely at increasing the speed of that turn, it also helps a WR get upfield quickly after the catch like Xars said, due to Wr's almost always turning fully around to make a catch rather than catching in stride. I personally think footwork helps defenders stay in position for the tackle when a HB is trying to turn the corner on them as opposed to the defender having to turn upfield and make a pursuing tackle rather than a head on one.

I also think footwork helps elusive HB's with movement, jukes, and maintaining speed as they slip tackles. I might be in the wrong here, but I actually think a healthy investment of footwork is important for all HB's. Basically any time a player can't adjust their direction of movement enough that they need to sidestep is when footwork comes into play.

Again I believe footwork was what got him through the line so quickly

There are more replays, but you get the picture unfortunately he's switched teams along with all his OT's so I think chem has got him and the OT's playing at a sub-standard level, but we'll see as the season progresses.

WRONG. Quickness IS acceleration. There are a few ways to prove this. The 40 time, First Step SA and the tool tip.

Yes...footwork is huge for fast, quick backs. They make defenders miss.

Lol...wat? Those plays show nothing. On the last one, that is pure sprinting. The 1st was juking.

Footwork helps the HB side step around the tackler. I do think sprinting is the most important skill on speed HBs, but that isn't the discussion.
