Hello, I am McGruff . . . GLB Classic season 1 team owner, GLB2 season 1 player, long term OC, DC, HC, builder . . . pretty much jack of all trades. Recently I've coordinated the Ground Assuat 5-2 project, the Hostile 3-4 project, and several other more conventional schemes.
But now its time for something a little different.
I've been testing in scrimmages a Dime 4-1 base defense. Considering these are scrimmages with a team not built to scheme, I'm impressed with the early results. There is good versatility within the 4-1 base to counter outside running, TE passing and WR passing. There is a little weakness against certain inside runs, but better builds could fix that. The basic idea would be as follows . . .
6-8 linemen, all spin/BRB/technique based . . . similar to what we've done with Ground Assault but with a 4 man line.
2 linebackers, both man coverage and pursuit based builds
3-4 coverage corners to play the outside spots (CB1 and CB2)
3-4 break run block and blitzing corners to play the inside spots (CB3 and CB4)
4 interchangeable safeties that are primarily man coverage with pursuit.
Base defense would be a Dime Man Base. That would cover most games. Against outside running team we would mix in some CB blitzes. There are some other playcalls within the 4-1 Dime that would allow us to specifically target TE and WR3 coverages as well.
I need an owner and player builders willing to take a chance on an unorthodox scheme that would require unorthodox builds. You'd need to find an OC as well. I can build the defense, provide defensive build guides, and massage it as we go along. But I need an owner and agents committed to a long term experiment.
Anyone interested?
