In honor of the best league in GLB2, I figure I'd provide a place for discussion, trash talk, and recapping for the best league that no one watches: the Senior League! This week was a hard hitting week full of exciting action, so hold on to your spare teeth and find a nice bench to sit down to catch up on the highlights.

Game 1: Hartford Walkers @ Saskatoon Sleepers

In what appeared to be a lopsided match from the start, Hartford surprised by storming out to an early lead behind the arm of their CPU QB Uriah West. In the end, though, they could not hold off the Sleepers as the Sleeper scored the last 10 points of the game to roll to a victory.

Player of the Game: DE Chris Yates, who lived in the backfield with 2.5 sacks, 5 hurries, and a TFL

Game 2: Phoenix Retirees at Jacksonville Grandpas

If you weren't already asleep in your armchair, this game would have ensured it, as it came down to a kicking competition which the Retirees managed to win. Phoenix continues a solid season with a win, and Jacksonville may have forgotten what a win feels like.

Player of the game: CB Dylan Quach, with 2 passes defended and an INT keeping Phoenix's talented receiving corps under wraps.

Game 3: Leeds Chartered Accountants at Washington Wrinkles

These two teams were evenly matched on paper, and proved to be evenly matched on the field. Leeds managed to claw their way to the overtime field goal that wrapped it all up, but Washington did well to score 10 points in 4 minutes to bring it to overtime.

Player of the game: QB Ricardo Bartlett, whose accurate passing (60.4% completion) and 383 yards led Leeds to victory

Game 4: Cincinnati Dinosaurs at Nashville Naps

The biggest talking point from this game featuring two fairly evenly matched teams will be the coaching as, by throwing when up a point in the 4th quarter, the Dinosaurs threw away the game, right into the waiting arms of the Naps defense. The Naps must feel like they escaped disaster to remain tied for the league lead and in sole lead of their division.

Player of the game: CB Ben Hur Over, for singlehandedly winning the game with the pick six

Play of the Week: CB Ben Hur Over wins the game for Nashville with the pick 6: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200848/789142

Game 5: Eugene Elderly at Houston Slugs

Both teams were looking at a loss dropping them out of playoff contention, especially as the end of the season is within ten games. In the end, Eugene's offensive firepower proved to be too much for Houston, as they drop to below .500 and are on the outside looking in.

Player of the game: WR Christian Whalen, who pulled down 8 receptions on 9 targets for over 100 yards.

Game 6: New York Lindy Hoppers at Louisville Rollers

Louisville has to be kicking themselves after this one, as the 5 turnovers almost undoubtedly contributed to their loss. New York must be ecstatic to pick up their first win of the season, catapulting them out of dead last next to Hartford and Jacksonville

Player of the game: TE Ruppert Randle, with 2 tds and over 100 yards receiving. Not enough to win, however.

PaulM's unofficial Most Valuable Senior rankings:

Offense:
1. QB Ricardo Bartlett, Leeds Chartered Accountants
2. TE Brian Barlow, Phoenix Retirees
3. WR Jenna Lee, New York Lindy Hoppers

Defense:
1. DE Chris Yates, Saskatoon Sleepers
2. LB Ricky Carney, Washington Wrinkles
3. DE Blanket Speedball Jr, Nashville Naps

Stay tuned for the previews for the next games!

It's time for the Senior League Previews and Predictions! We have some great games bright and early tomorrow:

Game 1: Phoenix Retirees vs. Saskatoon Sleepers

This game will be a battle. The defending champs sleepers take on the high powered dynasty of the Retirees. Both teams will struggle to score, with Phoenix getting a late touchdown to win the game 14-10

Game 2: Nashville Naps vs. Leeds Chartered Accountants

Another game between the top teams of the Senior league, one team will leave with possession of second place. Leeds brings their number one ranked offense and MVP QB to bear on the #2 scoring defense in the league. I predict Leeds will be too much for the Naps, winning 30-17

Game 3: Washington Wrinkles vs. Cincinnati Dinosaurs

Washington, despite scoring more than any other team still sits at a 3-2 rating. The Dinosaurs do as well, but with a formidable #1 scoring defense could give Washington fits. In the end, though the Wrinkles find a way 21-13

Game 4: Louisville Rollers vs. Eugene Elderly

Leon Sandcastle leads the Elderly's #1 rushing offense vs the #2 rushing defense of the Louisville Rollers. Another matchup of strength on strength, but Sandcastle's individual heroics lead the way as the Elderly win the day 17-14

Game 5: Houston Slugs vs. New York Lindy Hoppers

NYHL has a surprisingly strong passing attack despite their 1-4 record, but the Slugs are strong against the pass. In the end, NYHL will have a disappointing day on offense as they drop the game to the slugs 23-10

Game 6: Jacksonville Grandpas vs. Hartford Walkers

Well the good news for one of these teams is that someone has to win. In the end, Hartford has a slightly better offense than the league worst Grandpas, and takes a snoozer 14-0

It was a big week in the Senior League, with two games featuring the top 4 teams in the league. Even the games between bad teams were interesting, with one team picking up their very first win.

Game 1: Phoenix Retirees vs. Saskatoon Sleepers

Prediction: Phoenix wins 14-10

Both teams struggled out of the starting gate, but Phoenix was given a gift as the Saskatoon HB fumbled the ball on the 27 yard line following a Phoenix punt. Phoenix converted a long third down for a TD a few plays later, and never looked back. A field goal from Saskatoon was the only bright spot offensively for both teams, until Phoenix broke through with another TD after a long drive in the 3rd quarter. Another defensive stand and another touchdown later, Phoenix had the game well in hand, winning 21-9

Player of the Game: DE The Terminator, with 1.5 sacks, 3 hurries, and 1 TFL

Game 2: Nashville Naps vs. Leeds Chartered Accountants

Prediction: Leeds wins 30-17

Both teams opened their scoring in the 1st quarter, first with the Naps securing an 18 yard pass on 3rd down to set up a short TD run the very next play. The Accountants answered quickly, not seeing a 3rd down in a quick drive to the end zone. The teams each went through an offensive lull from there, until the 3rd quarter when Leeds broke the game open with a TD drive bookended by phenomenal runs by HB Cal Stryker. After another FG, the lead proved too much for Nashville to overcome despite a late TD. Leeds wraps up a win 20-17

Player of the Game: HB Cal Stryker, 7 carries, 64.5 yds, 6 receptions on 7 targets, 30 rec. yards, 1 TD

Game 3: Washington Wrinkles vs. Cincinnati Dinosaurs

Prediction: Washington wins 21-13

Going into the game, the main question was how the Dinosaurs could slow down Washington's #1 scoring offense. Although the Wrinkles offense had to punt, that was their only setback as the very next drive was a 12 play TD drive that sucked the life out of the Dinosaurs. The Wrinkles showed an outstanding array of offensive diversity, with 6 players receiving carries and 12 players catching passes, and the Dinosaurs failure was complete in all phases of the game as they suffered a muffed punt that eventually led to yet another TD. Although a Wrinkles win was predicted, I doubt anyone could have predicted the 35-7 drubbing they put on the Dinosaurs

Player of the Game: HB Lil Tank, 10 rushes, 47.5 yds, 2 receptions, 31 yds, and 1 Rec TD

Game 4: Louisville Rollers vs. Eugene Elderly

Prediction: Eugene wins 17-14

Both teams came geared up for a defensive struggle, and that's what it was. Despite the clear running threats on their team, the Elderly elected to favor the pass, and struggled all day to complete passes. Despite this, they were able to come from behind after giving up a 2nd quarter TD, scoring in both the third and fourth quarter to earn a 14-7 victory over the upset minded Rollers.

Player of the Game: DE Sheldon Cooper, w/ 1 sack, 2 hurries, and 3 TFL

Game 5: Houston Slugs vs. New York Lindy Hoppers

Prediction: Slugs win 23-10

In Senior league, as long as you can pass you have a chance, and NYLH can pass, despite what their record shows. The Slugs must have felt like they had NYLH figured out, as an early INT and return set them up in great position, and HB Fastlane Franklin punched in the 13 yd TD one play later. That was to be the high point of the game for the Slugs, as although they held the Hoppers scoreless for the first half, NYLH managed to score on their first drive of the 3rd quarter. The Slugs showed little offensive ability, and even coughed the ball up on their best chance of the second half. The Lindy Hoppers managed to eke out 10 more points to win the game 17-7

Player of the Game: TE Shoes Buttback, w/ 4 receptions on 5 targets for 83 yards and a TD

Game 6: Jacksonville Grandpas vs. Hartford Walkers

Prediction: Walkers win 14-0

Not many fans were excited headed into this game between the two league worst teams. Not a lot was expected of them, and not a lot was delivered. The first quarter was a perfect example of incompetence as Hartford had success on the ground only to abandon it later in drives, while Jacksonville QB Jay Evans was pulled down behind the line of scrimmage on three straight plays on one drive. Although Hartford took the lead on a 10 yd run by HB Mike Alstott, they could muster little else in the way of an offense. Jacksonville, meanwhile, may have set a Senior League record three and outs. Jacksonville managed to break through as a ball thrown into quadruple coverage was picked off, and then Evans was able to find a wide open WR D-Mack Nacho for a 35 yd gain, setting up the tying TD two plays later. Jacksonville continued to exploit Hartford's poor deep coverage to score enough for a 17-7 victory.

Player of the Game: WR Vince Ferguson w/ 4 receptions on 7 targets for 43.5 yds and a TD

SeniorCenter Week's Top Plays
1. HB Cal Stryker jukes defenders out of their shoes to break open a long run (http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200853/966868)
2. WR Vince Ferguson shows off his moves after the catch (http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200851/964842)
3.CB Shane Stern comes from out of nowhere to rob WR Stinky Wizzleteats of a catch (http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200851/963886)
4. HB Lil Tank catches the pass, builds up a head of steam, and cannot be stopped (http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200854/966851)
5. LB Colt Chen reads the QB's eyes and picks off a pass to set up a TD for the Slugs (http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200855/966060)

PaulM's unofficial Most Valuable Senior rankings:

Offense:
1. QB Ricardo Bartlett, Leeds Chartered Accountants
2. WR Jenna Lee, New York Lindy Hoppers
3. HB Leon Sandcastle, Eugene Elderly

Defense:
1. DE Chris Yates, Saskatoon Sleepers
2. LB Ricky Carney, Washington Wrinkles
3. DE Blanket Speedball Jr, Nashville Naps

PaulM's Picks: 4-2

Shorter previews this week! No one likes text walls.

Game 1: Saskatoon vs Washington

This is the CPU selected game of the week, and it seems appropriate as the Beta and Gamma leaders square off. Despite Saskatoon's record, their defense struggles, surrendering more yards than they earn each game. Wrinkles win behind a solid passing game 28-24

Game 2: Nashville vs. Jacksonville

The Grandpas are riding high from their first victory, but will come crashing down to earth as their last place scoring offense faces the toughest scoring defense in the league. Nashville could Nap right through this one, winning 21-6

Game 3: Leeds vs. New York

MVS candidate Ricardo Bartlett feasts against the worst defense in the league. NYLH's best chance is to turn it into a shootout, but they still lose 35-24 Worth noting: Leeds has only given up 5 sacks all season, a testament to their QB.

Game 4: Eugene vs. Cincinnati

Eugene gets the toughest opponent of all the top teams, w/ Cincinnati coming in at .500 but also having added several human players in the last week. Still not enough for the Dinosaurs as they drop a close one 21-17

Game 5: Pheonix vs. Louisville

Phoenix continues their dominance with a 17-0 bruising of the hapless Rollers. The Phoenix line leads the way, adding to their league leading total of 75 pancakes on the season.

Game 6: Hartford vs. Houston

Despite having no wins, Hartford matches up well with the Slugs. I'm calling for the Walkers to pull off the upset here, 14-10 Hurting the Slugs is the loss of their leading rusher Fastlane Franklin.

Another crazy week in Senior League Action! With so many teams competing for the tops spots, and the guarantee that some good teams will get left out of the playoffs, each game is important.

Game 1: Saskatoon vs Washington

Prediction: Wrinkles win 28-24

This game lived up to its billing as a game of the week. It was a real barnburner, coming down to the wire. In the end, it came down to who had the ball last, with the Wrinkles getting the 20-17 win over the Sleepers. It was the rushing game of Washington that made the biggest difference, averaging 5 ypc in a real team effort.

Player of the Game: HB Turbo Torres w/ 12 rushes for 79 yds and a TD in a losing effort

Game 2: Nashville vs. Jacksonville

Prediction: Nashville wins 21-6

Nashville came in with a reputation for crushing defense, and they showed it was well earned. Jacksonville QB Jay Evans spent the day running for his life, getting sacked 10 times and never finding a rhythm. Nashville's efficient offense took care of business on their end, and the Naps took it 27-7.

Player of the game: DE George Washington, who totaled 4.5 sacks to go with 5 hurries, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery

Game 3: Leeds vs. New York

Prediction: Leeds wins 35-24

The Lindy Hoppers must have heard the trash talk directed towards their defense, because they came in ready to headhunt the Leeds offense. Leeds players coughed the ball up on four separate occasions, with the New York defense recovering each time. The Hoppers followed a strong ground game to dominate time of possession and come away with the 24-10 upset.

Player of the game: HB Monkey Stoner, w/ 108 yards and a TD on just 16 carries.

Game 4: Eugene vs. Cincinnati

Prediction: Eugene wins 21-17

Eugene entered the game known more for their rushing attack than their passing, but from the beginning it seemed like QB Kendall Elliott was determined to show that he could ball too. They quickly jumped to a lead against the Dinosaurs, and managed to hold on in a defensive second half, with all points being scored before the halftime break. Elderly win 21-14

Player of the game: QB Kendall Elliott, who threw for 347 yards and 3 td on 29/45 passing

Game 5: Phoenix vs. Louisville

Prediction: Phoenix wins 17-0

The Retirees paved their way to victory again, racking up a whopping 11 pancakes as a team (which is a lot for Senior League). The Rollers had no answer to the dominant Retiree rushing attack, and the Retirees controlled the ball the whole game, running 90 plays to the Rollers 65. Only two turnovers from the Retirees kept it worse than the 17-7 victory it was.

Player of the game: HB Armando Hughes, w 158 yds and 2 TDs on a whopping 33 carries. Also added 3 receptions for 12 yards.

Game 6: Hartford vs. Houston

Prediction: Walkers win 14-10

Though the Slugs entered this game favored, future predictions may not favor them as they are in the unenviable position of having no HBs anywhere on their roster. The Walkers came in without a single win, and things immediately looked grim as they found themselves in a 10 point hole in the 3rd quarter. They didn't give up, though, and behind the legs of their two HBs managed to pull out the upset victory [b17-10. In the locker room after the game, they broke out the champagne as the last team in Senior League to win a game.

Players of the game: HBs Richie Andrews (13 carries, 103 yards, 1 td) and Mike Alstott (7 carries, 39 yards, 1 PR TD)

SeniorCenter Week's Top Plays
1. HB Mike Alstott refuses to say die and puts his entire team on his back for the game tying punt return TD http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200857/1141419
2. CB Roland Redding saves his team from the tying TD and plucks the ball out of the air http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200860/1144025
3. HB Turbo Torres hits the jets to beat the defense and score the tying TD for the Sleepershttp://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200862/1144499
4. K Carlton Strange earns himself some respect with the monster hit, forced fumble, and recovery http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200859/1143726
5. DE George Washington strips the Jacksonville QB and falls on the fumble http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/200861/1143474

PaulM's unofficial Most Valuable Senior rankings: (NOW WITH WEEK'S PERFORMANCES)

Offense:
1. QB Ricardo Bartlett, Leeds Chartered Accountants: 26/49, 53% passing, 312.5 yds, 1 TD
2. HB Armando Hughes: 33 carries, 158 yds, 2 TD
3. HB Leon Sandcastle, Eugene Elderly: 6 carries, 34.5 yards

Defense:
1. DE Chris Yates, Saskatoon Sleepers: 4 hurries
2.DE George Washington, Nashville Naps : 4.5 sacks, 5 hurries
3. CB Byran Maxwell, Saskatoon Sleepers: 11 targets, 3 rec. allowed, 1 PD, 4 tackles

PaulM's Picks: 9-3 (5-1 on the week)

One of the downsides of Senior League is that players are getting cut or released all the time, with few replacements. Sign your legends up! Give them a life after Veteran! They could win a few trophies and go out on top!

Game 1: Leeds vs. Eugene

Although this is the matchup of the week, one of the week's biggest talking points is the disappearance of MVP Candidate Ricardo Bartlett. With no QB to lead them, Leeds will not be able to maintain their winning ways. Eugene wins 31-3

Game 2: Hartford vs. Louisville

Neither of these teams are particularly strong, though Hartford showed some winning ability last week. In the end, Louisville's ability to pass outdoes Hartford's woeful air game 10-6

Game 3: Phoenix vs. Houston

Although Houston managed to resign one of their fullbacks, they run into the Phoenix juggernaut this week. Phoenix continues to roll, beating the Slugs 24-7

Game 4: Cincinatti vs. New York

An intriguing matchup as a bad Dinosaur offense faces a bad defense while a good Hopper offense matches up against a good defense. The Dinosaurs have been making moves, with a big pickup at HB that pays off with a 20-10 victory over the Lindy Hoppers

Game 5: Washington vs. Jacksonville

Washington added more weapons to their high power offense, which they bring to bear against a surprisingly decent Jacksonville defense. The Grandpa's D won't be enough though, as they struggle to score against the Wrinkles and fall 17-3

Game 6: Nashville vs. Saskatoon

In what is probably the game of the week, the Sleepers take on the Naps to prove who has somnolent supremacy. The Naps continue their upward trend, beating the defending champs 24-20 in a game that goes down to the wire.
