Finally the game the whole conference has anticipated. Although this reporter has a hunch the consensus was the records would be reversed.
The Carribean Sphere vs Houston Orangebloods matchup is sure to be a barn burner matching up two of USA#1s premier teams. Both teams are coming off of impressive victories over conference foes.
This matchup is certain to drive coaches and fans crazy with anticipation. Two incredible defensive teams will be put on display and as we all know, defense wins championships.
Whats on the line you ask? Nothing ecxept homefield throughout the Western conference playoffs and a whole lot of bragging rights. Whose defense is the elite in USA#1, is Iowa Jones really the best HB in the conference? Where does Chris Whaley fit into the picture?
Enough of the babble lets get a better picture of the two teams.
League favorite Carribean Sphere bring a very impressive 10-1 record. The team would be perfect if not for a major hicup against a pretty decent Texas Roughneck squad. For the most part the Sphere have handled all comers with a very dominant running game and a dominant play making defense. The Sphere lead the Conference in hurries(149), interceptions (36), turnovers(35) and have only allowed -3.5 yards rushing a game.
The Sphere Run game is also tops in the conference. Iowa Jones is the conf. top rusher with 1,527yds on the ground and an impressive 17 TDS. It hasn't mattered who the team has faced, This unit has done work against all comers. Overall Sphere has rushed for 2368.5 yards. Mr Jones is joined in the running game by Grezbor Quam a fine rusher himself and a touch down machine, as well as the active FB Ash Night.
The passing game is a very efficient unit guided by QB Jim Plunkett. His targets are Clifford Speedkills, Flash Rice and Catchyn Widahomeas, a very dangerous group. While the passing game isnt the center of this team, don't overlook them. When called upon they can do damage with the best of them.
The Houston Orangebloods are sporting a sparkling 11-0 record. After a very close call against the Hitmen, Houston steam rolled through the Texas Roughnecks and are feeling pretty confident in their team. The Orangebloods have gotten to this point relying on a very stiffling defense and a balanced offensive attack. Both offensively and deffensively the OBs are among the league leaders in all major team categories. The Special teams have been just that. Scoring TDs on both the return teams and coverage teams. Its a pick your poison team if I ever saw one.
The offense is led by Dean Cochoran he is just 1.5yds off the league lead in passing and 3tds back in the standings as well. all of this while only throwing 9 int. While unheralded, this man has ice in his veins. He has a team full of targets including the fast rising Mercury Morriss. MM has emerged out of no where this year and is among the league leaders in all receiving categories. The running game is spear headed by the legs of HB Chris Whaley. Whaley is 500 yds behind Iowa Jones in the yardage race, but some say he is every bit the back. The enigmatic Hodges Mitchell joins him in the backfield, together they form a great one two punch. You cant talk rushing without the mention of the marvelous offensive line anchored by Osama Yo Mamma in the middle.
Defense is what the boys from Houston take the most pride in. This unit has no stars, but plenty of standouts. They eat together, hang together and have even been known to share each others women. This is a finely tuned machine. The Dline is anchored by Sean "league of extra-ordinary gentlemen" Connery and Jake "Mutual of Omaha" Rock. The duo are beasts and rushers have been known do be swallowed whole by these man children. The secondary is so deadly and full of playmakers this reporter got lost in the laundry list of standout. If you havent seen them the LBs are a deadly swarming group led by Mikkel Mork and Jackson Fantana. I planned to have an interview with them, but they are still feasting on the roughnecks RBs.
In closing, dont miss this battle. July 4th is a day to celebrate Americas independence, This year will be celebrated with fireworks and carnage.
Who will win you ask? Post your thoughts below and my prediction will be posted at a later date and time.
