- Harrisonburg is the runaway best defense in the game (far away from Salty).
- Minnesota is excellent vs the rush, but has no pass rush and can be beat with long passes.
- Hard to pass deep against Queen City so screen/short pass them to death.
- TFLs against outside rushes are an uber common occurrence (almost 40% of the time vs Harrisonburg)
- Stunners have the best interior run d-line.
- Passing and rushing are pretty damn equal/balanced.

and - though ladder games are a very good measure (probably as good as we can reasonably do) - for those of us in Monroe:

MMA / Stunners (5 vs 1) has 2 games not listed here
likewise - HBurgs stats don't include 3 vs 5 or 3 vs 1

which does start to get statistically important when looking at 13 games. So for the stunners - that "top team" evaluation would be 16 games - all of our ladder - + 2 MMA + harrisonburg - jumping the analysis to 16 games (and certainly hurting our stats here)

awesome post - and a great measure though. Would be awesome if someday Stobie's scouter can do that - I know it was tedious

also kind of funny: apparently harrisonburg hasn't played Queen City or Virgins -- how is that for a ladder draw!

You could also make a chemistry argument for some of these teams. Queen City would certainly be trending upwards in a lot of these categories, specifically on the rush side. These stats would lead you to believe that Queen City is a bit of a pass focused defense, which obviously isn't the case. Nothing is ever perfect.

Kind of explains their amazing run defense stats. No games against Stunners, QCB or Virgins in the data.

Yea the big league games mess this system up pretty big. If you take QC, factor in the 2 games against Air Raid they then go to #10 in the long passes allowed with a 7.9 YPA and 52% completion rate.

right - in a perfect world - you would take QC's two games vs Air Raid - and average the stats (then count it as 1 game) - then you would have a truer apples to apples comparison.

Same with minnesota / mma - average the stats from the two and count it as one game.

(all brutal to do by hand though - so not faulting romo - this is a great post on a boring day)

Absolutely, I didn't mean it as a flame. Just pointing out how bad the league can mess it up. You factor in the 1 game with Harrisonburg and the Stunners and it takes Harrisonburg all the way down to #5 on the YPC list. Thats without adjusting other teams so they very well could move back up once you factored all that in.

Ya we're stuck with the tools we have. Definitely have to include the top of that league mix without saying 'hey take this great team at passing/rushing and look what they'd do'. If you factor in Air Raid to a Tiger team you also factor in Portland, Salty, Stark, NY Nightmare, Legacy, etc.

maybe stobie could simply do:

factor in playing teams with a winning record -- and average the stats where there is a rematch

Yea, hard to take much from the rushing stats above without Minn/Virginis/QC... my guess is we are mid-range on rush D instead of #1

But you can absolutely learn from the pass D... MMA is the only formidable passing team in our league, so those ladder stats for pass D are spot on, as we've played every elite passing team in ladder other than MMA (who we played in league). Playing Virgins/QC won't hurt our pass defense ratings. Including our pass rush (high sack %), we have arguably the best pass defense.

Out of curiosity, I wanted to compare my stats from the original to vs current top 20 (encompasses league and ladder). Sample of 18 games here. So it removes the helping from Boogie Men/New Jersey Generals/etc and basically gives the truest statistical output possible. Speaks a bit towards the state of the sim when you're fighting fire with fire. No dilution. And this is with 2 games vs Stunners and 2 vs Air Raid, including a set with low chemistry lol.
