Part of the problem with combating power backs is that most positions have a hard time getting Tackling Tech/Power/Grip all to a high enough cap necessary to consistently bring down a power back, unless they are S*. Even with the best traits and attribute point distribution you can never get 100 caps in these stats like you can almost any other. Increase the marginal product of attribute points on tackling skill caps so we can actually get our tackling skills high enough. Maybe even include a "tackling specialist" type trait that gives -5% cost +4 cap to tackling tech/grip or something. Even non-superstar power backs can get to 100 power running, but a non-S* LB will be lucky to get to 85/85/70 with cap boosts.

I agree...but there is already a trait "Sure Tackler" that gives -10% cost and +6 tackle tech/grip.

Yeah at the expense of power tackling, which is a skill also necessary to bring down power backs consistently. picking that trait is incredibly counterproductive since we don't really know if tech or power tackling helps more. I've had toons with 90 tech and 60 power tackling and vice versa get consistently trucked.

I like this idea, possibly reduce the cost by 2-3% to see if it helps as well.

That's just the thing. You can't ignore at least 3 of the skills and you would honestly like to max all 4 to be great enough to combat a superstar with some forced fumbles.

Even maxing the skill is not enough. In most cases to get tackling tech to 90+ you MUST use your cap boosts as well

Playing around with Stobie's player creator, even having Strength/Agility/Awareness with 10 attribute points, the main attributes affecting tackling skills, and taking sure tackler, tenacious, and middle man, I only get to 92 tech/80 Power/79 Grip. This also leaves the build with absolutely no speed or conditioning so in reality the caps would be even lower on a reasonably built player. The fact I had to sacrifice so many stats and still can't even get close to capping them is a huge problem

That's got to be some serious SP cost, is there an example of a non S* with over 100 power running? My GL back with 10 Strength maxed out at 85ish and each power rushing point was at like 2k at that point.

Agreed with the rest of the post though.

The thing with powerbacks is that they really don't need much else. Most powerbacks goon out with speed in just the 40s, and balance and grip are very cheap so there's really no downside to taking power rushing up high

I'm at 97 very easily. Could capped 100 if I didn't bring speed up a cap. Non superstar.

This. I was even able to get 80 speed.

You bring up great points in this thread. It's too difficult to build a superior tackling defender in this game. You can build an elite pass defender though.

No good powerback is just silo'd in power running and nothing else. Run through the hall of fame and or the top rushing teams in GLB2 via Stobie or w/e and watch some games.

That'd be like arguing non s* RBs can compete at equivalent level to a s* RB. Those superstars are better for their extra SPs because the RB position is demanding.
