A new season breaks! Looks like a pretty good week in the ladder. When your #1 vs #9 game is the biggest snoozer, that makes for an interesting week
#1 Air Raid vs #9 New Jersey Generals
- New Jersey has a CPU roster. Air Raid will do some stat whorin' in this one. Snagging NJ's #9 quality elo while it's still hot! I'm taking all the easy ladder games I can get while chemistry is low. In case nobody noticed, Air Raid has 11 new faces this season.
#2 The Salty Runback vs #4 Harrisonburg Bulldogs
- Here's a good one! Salty's high contracts vs Harry's overhauled roster. It's no secret that Salty's much better equipped to deal with rushing teams than passing teams. Harry is capable of a pretty nasty passing attack. Harry's also won a scrim already this season against Salty, but that doesn't necessarily mean much. I'm picking Salty to win this one. I don't really have any compelling reason why though, other than I'm guessing that Blastoh and Fumblerooski will out gameplan Tdiddy for the day.
#3 Minnesota Stunners vs #8 New York Nightmare
- 3 for 3 on top 10 matchups so far this week! That usually means a cool week. New York was playing particularly good bortball towards the end of last season, and snagged a championship over Stark Dire Wolves. They've reworked the roster a good bit this offseason too, and are fielding one of the nastier looking offensive lines in the game. Minnesota is the same team from last season. Solid top 5 caliber squad. They're not likely to slip this season. I'm expecting Minnesota to hammer New York here. NY will get better though as the season progresses. It'll be interesting to see if New York can keep their top 10 standing early, and if not, can they reacquire it later this season as chemistry recovers.
#5 Portland Ronin vs #14 Rhode Island Falcons
- Portland continues to be the model of consistency. No real changes in many seasons. They're the highest remaining season 1 team. Power running attack. Good defense. They're not an elite team, but they're good enough to have hung around the top 5 for a very long time. I expect they'll slip this season towards the bottom half of the top 10. There's a few other teams out there that are going to push them. One of which, they face this first week. Rhode Island's capable of shutting down Portland's rushing attack, and Portland's struggled with good passing attacks in the past. Rhode Island's beefed that up even more this season by bringing in Percy Harvin. I'm picking Rhode Island here. I'd expect Rhode Island to win a blowout over Portland normally, but chemistry may tamper such a result somewhat early this season.
#6 Stark Direwolves vs #16 Gatling Valley Pirates
- Another good Season 1 vs Season 3 matchup. Gatling Valley has been a consistently good team, and deserves their nearly top 15 ranking. Stark had a really nice top 10 quality season last year, and have edged up to #6 to start this year. They've got some chemistry issues after the offseason, and it may make this game close. On a normal day, I'd expect Stark to win comfortably, but I'm going with the upset here. Chemistry hurts. Rookie longsnapper botches at least 3 snaps
#7 MMArmy Can Crushers vs #21 I've Never Had Sex
- Powerhouse Season 3 squad MMArmy tackles fresh to Veteran Season 4 powerhouse Virginity Rules! This could be a really, really good game. We're going to find out what Season 4 squads are made of really quick, because MMArmy was a top 5 squad last season that just ran out of games to finish the ladder climb. This one should be really interesting.
#10 Legacy vs #27 LUELinks LUEshis
- I used to bitch about typing out LL's name in league writeups from Season 2 rookie ball. Well, they're back, and as a Season 4 re-roll that's been pretty good. There's some talent on the squad, but it appears they've had a rough offseason trying to recruit. ONly 36 players, and needed 3 CPUs to get that many. That does not bode well for facing a top 10 caliber squad in Legacy. Of course, Legacy's undergone it's own offseason overhaul. Lots of chemistry to recover, but knowing AirMcMvp, this is likely to be a very talented squad. Legacy, much like New York, is going to be interesting to watch this season. I'm picking them to win this game despite the chemistry issues.
Noteworthy outside the top 10:
#11 Dookie Island vs #12 Rusty's Ruins
- I like Rusty to win. That said, losing to an inactive owner in the first league game is bad form. That minimalist offense is very interesting though. Will it work? Chemistry will limit Rusty's a good bit early on. Particularly with the smaller roster.
