I have a rookie QB who only played about 1/3 of the season and is at level 2 rookie. I can choose to catch up and lose his stats from this ending season to boost to level 5. Is this something I would want to do?

In almost all cases, yes.
You'll end up playing fewer games overall in your career, but you'll be playing at the same level rather than several levels behind. It will also making finding a home for him much easier.

Only if you are hyper concerned about your overall stats should you do this. QB is so competitive that it isn't worth it, while in some other positions (if you're not a team player) you might find a team regardless.

When does the catch up option become available again?
Had a guy on a CPU team that got bought, the new owner cut my guy and I didn't notice till I saw the EXP difference
