Im new here and Im not completely sure what these are for. Do they serve a purpose or are they just to pass the time away in between games?

I'm a new booty as well, but let me make a feeble attempt at providing you some insight into the pick up games purpose. They allow you to get a glimpse of how any adjustments you've made to your player effect his play. Not really the best insight as often time the pick up teams can be of a lower quality. For instance my hb has had quite a few monster pick up games. Haven't yet posted similar numbers in a regular game. Andyes they also help pass the time between games and give ya a lil somethin to come back for.

They offer a way to get fast(er) feedback on any build changes, and give you something to watch inbetween real games.

As an owner or recruiter, we know the talent faced in these games are less competent. We can use these as good scouting tools, especially if your build is closed.

They also allow you to test offenses, defenses, and other layouts that you may want to run and test, without the risk of just throwing out an unknown in a real game.

I think you meant scrimmage games by that.

Pickup is the "for fun" mode, simply put.
