Personally, I think it's one of the more critical and tougher positions to build.

This is Jake Scruggs:

He's finished in the Top 10 of the HLOLF the last three years.

As I've wandered the path, I more or less ended up modeling him after T.J. Ward after awhile - poor-to mediocre coverage skills, lacks technique, takes big risks and forces a lot of turnovers.

Like any position, sooner or later I had to make concessions here and there, but with SS you're always sacrificing something major. He's got to be able to cover the strong side run, cover the TE, support over the top, etc. My next S* on D would definitely be a SS (and a TE on O for that matter).

How have builds gone for y'all at SS?

Mine is a little different as I like to build mine like a FS for pass defense...strictly zone pass defender. When I reset my team, I will probably make a S* SS as well because he is used in the run game a bunch as well.

i am building him to be a smash mouth run defender and have decent pass defense, not sure how well it is going

Nice, 15 forced fumbles in one season.

I have one built for pass defending (man aware/deflecting/cover tech) and one built for run defending (pursuit/speed/tackle tech).

Plug and play as needed.

http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/55662 is my guy - was #1 HoF for his first two seasons (but also played OOP linebacker sometimes), fell off for a bit, and now is back at #5.

I think it's a solid jack-of-all-trades-ish build. Not perfect, but a solid model for people to compare against.

SS is tough to build, but if I had to pick one, I'd rather have someone more run stopper focused than pass because I can scheme against a S* or receiving TE a lot easier than a strong running game. But that's just from my point of view. With the plays available it's easier to hide a strong safety's lack of coverage skills than to limit a pass coverage safety from being impactful against the run game.

Too many teams go with only one SS which is why building him to do everything is a problem.

An excellent S* option for a Defense.

i like having a FS who can play either safety spot. or at least i would trust my FS to be a bit better coverage saft=ety

Mine's got a similar build, but I opted to pump Power Tackling and Gold Monster Hit awhile back.

Really pays off in FF's and KL's, and masks his coverage deficiencies.

How you liking TJ Ward now? Interesting stats -- looks like more successful cov % than J Scruggs or Edgar Roni Figaro. I am curious of the attribute allocation.

Let's Talk Strong Safety

Yeah let's. SS was a tough position before but with S* TEs getting the +10 to CiT that they should have had... Oh boy did this build (SS) just get tough.

if you're making a strong safety who isn't also a superstar, you're gonna have a bad time.

This. SS Needs to be a superstar, otherwise they'll be deficient in one area. There's just too man SP's to spread around.
For reference here's my HOF SS who's pretty much rocked shit his whole career but is still a complete and utter liability in the passing game, and not really fast enough to be rangy. If I could do it all over again I wouldn't, I was just lucky one team was willing to stick with him for his whole career as the only one on the roster while passes sailed over his head and all around him into awaiting receivers hands.
